You know, if I had picked up a basketball anytime in the past five years, I might take you on, but sadly, its been a while.

I will say I was a pretty fair player at one time...you know, before I got fat and slow.

Most people assume I’m an

Most people assume I’m an excellent basketball player just because I’m tall. Most people are very, very wrong. I can’t run, jump, or shoot the ball and I get nervous when it’s passed to me during a game. And my shooting mechanics are awful. Instead of arcing my shots, I just sort of throw them straight at the backboard.

That said, I love playing and I haven’t played a real game of basketball since college. I’d take a pickup game anytime you’re ready to lose, Mathias.

Does your shoulder hurt?

You know, from patting yourself of the back?

To be fair, I wish I played more basketball. When I was younger, I was always playing some sport of some kind. Even if it meant I was outside shooting baskets by myself.

Now, sadly, I am too lethargic for my own good, increasingly out of shape, and feeling fatter by the day.

Here's an update: Apparently, I am worse than I thought. I was 6-for-7 with eight runs scored. Still a good day, though.

The scores were 23-17 in the loss and 13-9 in the win.

You're like the coaches who don't report the bad stuff their team did.

By the way, an injury is a good way to get out of playing. Yeah, go with the sore arm thing. That always goes over well. Or you could be a man and buy a couple of rounds of batting practice at Grand Slam in Eagan.

I’m not posting a story

I’m not posting a story about my softball team this week because we lost badly, too. I didn’t play and I wasn’t able to go to the game, but I found out the score and it wasn’t pretty at all. The worst part, I was told, was that the other team rubbed it in.

I also share your problem in not being patient. I routinely swing at the first pitch that comes my way, and I pop out almost every time. I think I also hurt my arm during my last game.
