Jhentges, you're right. The Twins've got some big games coming up, and experience will be a major factor in whether or not the good guys win. What about sending down Brian Bass, who is not bad but also not great, and putting Matt Guerrier in the long relief role that he has so excelled at in the past? Or consider this: How long do we wait for Boof Bonser to prove he belongs at the majors instead of Francisco Liriano? The bullpen is one area that could be improved. The Twins could also bring up Mariano Gomez, who joined the Twins system this past winter and has posted great numbers at Triple A.

The problem with sending

The problem with sending Livian down you then taken away the only pitcher the Twins have with big game experience.

I think you let Liriano stay in the minors until you have an opening whether by injury, trade or a current pitcher tanking.

Up comes Liriano after the all-star break and out goes who in the rotation?

It has to be Livian.

Word has it, the Twins recently have had Liriano revert to his old 3/4 arm slot after experimenting with some mechanical adjustments after his T-J surgery, and the effects have been drastically positive.

After I read the title of this blog post, I was all ready to post about how it must be a Minnesotan thing that everyone loves Perkins, and that they have pretty good milkshakes there. But then I found out it was about baseball.

What’s the deal with these Twins? Second place in the central – back by only 1-1/2 games and ahead of third place by a good four games? Talk about over achieving! Is this a sign that the Twins are better than expected or that the division is a lot worse than expected? And what are the chances they get hot at the right time and earn a playoff spot?

I questioned why the Twins

I questioned why the Twins were willing to spend so much on a closer when they let the best pitcher in baseball walk. Mathias’ explanation that with a less than stellar starting rotation the Twins will need an excellent bullpen makes sense to me.

Turns out he is the richest closer in baseball. And rightly so, since he's the best one.

Yes, good move by the Twins. Nathan is one of the best in the game.

The Twins bullpen should be strong again.

Just for the lack of scoring, I've never much appreciated soccer. Especially playing it -- too much work for no reason is bad for my attitude.

I do really want to learn

I do really want to learn about baseball, but it’s something I feel I’ll have to ease myself into. I didn’t like off-season football until I knew what was going on with the trades and how they effected the team during the season. Would it be great to know why certain players are important to a team’s future? You bet, but first I have to know what goes on during the regular season.

Jumping into baseball during spring training would be like trying to understand math by learning calculus. Sure, there’s a lot of great information there, but unless I have the basic skills I can pick up during the season, I won’t know what the heck is going on.

I will try to lay off the “baseball is boring” jokes, though.

I have to agree with Brandon. At the risk of being called un-American, I have to admit I've never much liked baseball (or football, for that matter).
My idea of a sport is one in which the ball and the players are kept in near-constant motion. Go basketball and soccer!

Wow, that's pretty harsh.

Not to mention, you can have spring fever without thinking about baseball. I do. It is more about just the desire for better weather and the opportunity to spend some time outside.

But, you sound so cynical. I don't think you really WANT to like baseball or learn about it at all. I think you would rather just talk about how boring of a game it is.

Try not to be so cynical and open up your mind to the game and maybe you will like it. Although, yes, it helps to know the insider stuff to make it more interesting.

Now that football season is

Now that football season is over, I guess I’ll have to sit through report after report on spring training baseball on ESPN. It’s that time of year that the best plays they can conjure up for the top 10 on SportsCenter usually involve animals doing something stupid (like a water skiing squirrel) or no names in spring training making boring plays in even more boring games. Maybe thinking of it as spring fever is right – it's a disease you just wish would go away.

I’m ready to learn more about baseball, but I’m definitely waiting until the regular season to get interested – at least at first.

No way would that deal fall

No way would that deal fall through. The Mets couldn't let it happen.

And Gomez should likely win the CF job, and if he does he will liekly hit leadoff is my guess. Harris is not a leadoff hitter.

Also, I would expect Delmon to hit third and Cuddyer fifth.

And, I bet Baker is the opening day starter. There is also word of the Twins signing a pitcher, maybe Josh Fogg. That must mean either, they want insurance in case Liriano isn't ready, or they don't want Perkins in the rotation.
