From time to time, this Web site will bring up an old story. I'm guessing that's what you saw -- something from two years ago (one city council election ago), when Trudy Smith and Dale Oldenburg resigned. Jeremy Goebel was re-elected that year, there were several candidates, and David Hanson and Jeanne Marnoff joined the council.

How sad that someone would steal and torture an animal! Why would he think it was okay to kill someone's pet? Pets are members of the family.

I hope this man is punished severely.

That is incorrect. Goebel's seat on the Jordan City Council is not up for election this year. Most recently, he was re-elected in 2006. City council and mayoral terms run for four years.

The seats held by Mayor Ron Jabs and councilmembers Sally Schultz, Mike Shaw, and Barry Ullmann are up for election this November. To my knowledge, none of these candidates has announced his or her intentions about re-election.

If someone wants to file for city elections, they ought to do so between Aug. 26 and Sept. 9. For more information, call the city at 952-492-2535.

The problems with waiting until election time is only 1 is seeking reelection, the other 2 are not. So hopfully people still remember this issue at the time the other seek reelection if they do.

Just wait until elections are held, then we will see who won.

Taking the land by condemnation did not need to happen. The intersection did not need to be widened in order to replace the lights.

Shame on the city for taking land away from the Church that has been in existence 150 years.

Chief Malz's attempt to justify jailing Adam Heinen is inaccurate, incomplete and self serving. What has the police, the prosecuting attorney or the judge done to compensate Mr. Heinen for the months he was incarcerated on a false accusation?Certainly he should be compensated and receive an apology. Chief Malz writes that the police, the procesutor and the judge correctly folowed the system. Every atrocity ever committed was considered legal by those committng the atrocity. Chief Malz says that one can only reach 100 percent certainty if the suspect admits to the crime or the victims recant their story. Truth is that in the 1984 Child Sxual Abuse Scandal in Jordan Minnesota, many confessions were coerced and many of the accusers recanted their stories. The twenty three adults arrested and falsely accused in that debacle have not received any compensation for their losses nor an apology from those responsible. Justice is still undone.

I read that the family of the victim doesn’t blame Craigslist for what happened, but I certainly hope that the crime opens a few eyes about blindly trusting people from the site. Shawn Hogendorf wrote about his experience with fraud on the site less than a week before the ad that lured the victim was placed (read his post here: http://www.jordannews.com/node/5204).

All proceeds from the sale of "Nightmares and Secrets" go to some organizations that work to prevent child sexual abuse and assist investigators in obtaining court-worthy evidence and avoid false accusations. Organizations are mentioned in the book. By not selling on Amazon or the large chain book stores, more money from book sales can be directed to the helpful organizations.
