Videos of the interview with Anthony Daniels (aka C-3PO) are posted on www.youtube.com/jordanindependent, and they will be posted on this Web site during the weekend. Read the Jordan-Belle Plaine edition of Southwest Saturday for a full page Q&A with photos. Daniels' personality really comes out well in the interview.

Yes, I do like Obi-Wan, but

Yes, I do like Obi-Wan, but Han Solo takes the cake for cool sayings in the movies.

"I have a bad feeling about this."
"Either I'm going to kill her or I'm beginning to like her."
"Laugh it up fuzzball."
"He's the brains, sweetheart."
"Chewy, take the Professor and hook him up to the hyperdrive."
"Never tell me the odds."
"That's great kid, now don't get cocky."
"Don't worry. She'll hold together...Hear me baby? Hold together."
"I'm out of it for a little while, and everyone gets delusions of granduer"
"You're all clear kid, now let's blow this joint and go home."

Then there is:
"I shall watch your career with great interest." - Palpatine in Episode 1.
"I'm a jedi, like my father before me." - Luke

"Someday your going to be wrong and I just hope I am there to see it." - Leia...and Leia's best line...."Why, you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking, nerfherder."
"Who's scruffy-looking?" - Han
"You said you wanted to be here when I made a mistake; this could be it sweetheart." - Han

The back-and-forth between Han and Leia was always great.

Oh, and its always the fool who follows is the most foolish.

Luke says, "I'll try."

Yoda replies . . .
"Do. Or do not. There is no try."

From the second Star Wars movie, I think.

Or how about, "Go ahead. Make my day." Oh wait, that's Dirty Harry.

Obi Wan is great, but the bigger fool is the fool who follows. At least the first fool is blazing his own trail.

It’s hard to pick a favorite line from those movies. There are so many good ones. Here are my favorites from just the first movie (with a little bit of help from IMDB):

The best Obi Wan line is, “In my experience, there’s no such thing as luck.”

And the line I quote the most is probably “These are not the droids you’re looking for.”

Han gets all the best one-liners, though: “Sorry about the mess,” “Boring conversation anyway,” “No reward is worth this.” If it wasn’t for Indiana Jones, Han Solo would easily be the coolest movie character ever.

I’ve done both a Star Wars

I’ve done both a Star Wars (original flavor) and Indiana Jones straight-through marathon, as well as a Back to the Future straight-through marathon. I’ve even done a theatrical edition Lord of the Rings straight-through marathon. I’d like to hit up all three of the deluxe editions at a time, though.

My suggestion for the next marathon would be to link it to a certain director or producer. Like maybe Alfred Hitchcock or Martin Scorsese or the Coen brothers.

Or, heck, just do an actor or actress – but go with someone who always plays a small or bit part and who isn’t the star. How about a Clint Howard or John Turturro marathon?

You know, I have been telling myself for years that I am going to do the Star Wars straight through, but still haven't done it. Maybe one of these days when I have some free time....like the year 2050 when I am 75 years old and (hopefully) retired.

Would like also to do an Indiana Jones marathon, or a Lethal Weapon marathon, or a Rush Hour marathon, or a baseball movie marathon (Field of Dreams, Major League, Bull Durham, etc.)

My first car was a total

My first car was a total lemon, but it was still my favorite car ever. Here’s the story:

I wanted to buy some late 1960s model Ford – I think it was a Fairlane. Anyway, my dad and I went to look at it and drive it around. I couldn’t take the car for a test drive, though, because I didn’t know how to drive stick yet. My dad drove it and said it probably wasn’t the best car for me. One of the reasons may have been the high price and the hole in the floor of the backseat.

I was pretty upset, and I wanted to buy it anyway. But the next day, my dad came home from work and told me he had found the car for me – and he was right. We went and looked at a 1984 Toyota Van (that was the model name – “The Van”). Again, I couldn’t test drive it – it was a five-speed manual transmission. But I knew I loved the car as soon as I opened the door:

The seats folded down into a bed

There were places for curtains on all the back windows

There was a built-in mini-fridge between the driver’s and passenger’s seat

It looked like both the Mystery Machine from “Scooby Doo” and a toaster

I was in love. I named it the Archduke Ferdivan. It couldn’t go faster than 55 miles an hour, because the shaking became unbearable at that speed. You had to flip up the driver’s seat to get to the engine, but the battery was was underneath one of the back seats. It had the winter weather traction of a ski, and slid around the road and into ditches every time it snowed. It was awesome.

My dad actually drove it more often than I did – he filled the back with tools while we built a new house. But I learned to drive stick and drove everywhere I could. Until one day, about two years after I bought it, on my way home it started to rattle more loudly than usual. That night, it didn’t start. The next day, it took an hour to jump start it enough to drive it into town. It never started again. I traded it in to the dealer for $500 back off a new lemon (a Chevy Lumina that needed to go to the mechanic about once a month, but that's another story).

I can no longer drive the Archduke, but I still love it.

Excellent, Mathias!

Excellent, Mathias!

All but my two most recent cars were "lemons"... but I drove them until they literally died on the road and were irresurrectable. (My dad was a mechanic!)

First was the 1976 Mercury Comet... It died somewhere along I-75 between Lexington, KY and Cincinnati during 1984...

Next, was the 1980 Ford Pinto (purchased when the Comet died) that I drove until the transmission, which was automatic, only had third gear (and no reverse) ... Since the body was in good shape, my dad inserted the transmission from my sister's 1979 Pinto into it and she drove it for six more years.

The 1987 Chevy Cavalier purchased in 1989 with 17,000 miles on it turned 200,000 miles and promptly died at 200,010 miles sometime in the winter of 1991.

I then bought a Toyota Paseo and drove it across country several times (including the move to MN). When I couldn't stand having my two dogs literally breathing down my neck from the back seat, I donated it to TPT and bought my Explorer...

Great room for the dogs and comfy on road trips... but the 15 miles to a gallon is a bit annoying...

I read an essay by Chuck

I read an essay by Chuck Klosterman (in a book called "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs") about how the end of "Empire" was exactly why members of generation X turned out the way they did.

I think it’s the best ending in the series. That’s an opinion that has evolved over the last few years. When I first saw the movie (the first Star Wars movie that I saw), I thought it was the worst ending of all time. Looking back, though, it’s clearly the best, because it is really the only way to end the movie that came before it.

Not only does Han deliver the best love scene of all time when he’s frozen in the carbonite, but every other memorable scene in the series is in this movie. Luke gets beaten down enough to realize he isn’t the best there ever was, and Darth Vader tells Luke he's his father - in one fight scene. Vader walks away having already shown some ability to turn his back on the Emperor by offering to rule with Luke at his side. We learn from Yoda (not really at the end of the movie, but in the middle when Luke leaves Dagobah) that there is another who could bring balance to the force. And it's got Billy Dee Williams.

To tack on a happy ending to that would be like eating a full steak dinner and then being asked to eat a second steak before you leave the restaurant. The audience needed time to digest the awesomeness.
