“Under the Banner of Heaven” is on my bookshelf just waiting for me to take some time and crack it open. I’ve also heard great things about “Into Thin Air” and “Into the Wild,” so I’m excited to give Krakauer a shot.

“Night” is a good book.

“Night” is a good book. We had to read it in eighth grade, and it was one of the few (maybe five) books that I ever had to read for school that I actually enjoyed.

In answer to Wiesel’s question of “where is God when people are suffering?” I’ll quote a pop-culture source – “Without the bitter, the sweet ain’t as sweet” (from “Vanilla Sky”). That’s a really simplistic way of saying that bad things happen because God uses them to show us that good things happen, too. Where is the need for faith if life is good all the time? God uses those bad things in our lives to build our relationships with him and our trust and reliance on him.

That’s my two cents, anyway.

Maybe journalism isn’t so

Maybe journalism isn’t so bad, but if you wanted to get a petition ready calling for all reporters and editors to wear eye patches and carry cool swords, I’d sign it.
