Kudos to you for utilizing available technology to keep a small town newspaper dynamic and interactive!

My grandfather owned a small town Minnesota newspaper for decades, and both of his children became professional journalists. The field has changed SO much! I remember playing with typeset boxes as a kid...and now I get to watch my dad play with his Blackberry to keep up on the latest scoops.

It was inevitable that I too become a news junkie. Thank you for making The Jordan Independent so accessible.

Could the Celtics win it in four? Yeah. Will they? Who knows?

If I had watched any of the games, I might have been crying conspiracy after the Lakers beat the Spurs to advance to the NBA finals last night. But I didn’t watch, so I guess I can only assume that there was no referee interference in order to bring the marquee match-up that the NBA has likely been salivating over for years – the Lakers v. the Celtics – to fruition.

I read somewhere that the difference between the NBA and a lot of other professional sports leagues is that a good majority of NBA fans believe there is a conspiracy to put big-market, big-name teams in the finals at the expense of small-market clubs, and also that the fans still love the sport despite this conspiracy. I totally buy into that. I think the NBA has wanted the Lakers v. the Celtics since the Lakers started winning early in the season. But I guess that’s OK with me as long as the Celtics - one-time home of Larry "Legend" Bird - blow them away.

I don’t know what you’re talking about with the snooze comments. Watching the Spurs and Hornets battle it out over seven games has been exciting, and it was a thriller to see Garnett and the Celtics go to seven games, too. This has been a pretty interesting year for the NBA playoffs.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Yeah, I watch. And after the first 5 minutes or so, when the Hornets led 12-6, I was bored out of my mind by the lousy Spurs. There is nothing interesting about drawing fouls and taking open 10-foot jump shots. Here's to another snoozer, I mean Spurs playoff run. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

It was a good run for Lord Favre, but it's over.
Packer fans may be said, but I'll be the Packer brass is doing back flips. They have to be thinking privatley, "Thanks Brett for the Super Bowl and years of dedicated service, but finally we can move on and rebuild the team without having to always wonder what your status is."

I'm surprised that Brett would retire with his last pass being an interception. And he's still better than 2/3 of the quarterbacks in the NFL. But, we Packer fans knew it had to happen. I, for one, and glad that he quit while he was still on top of his game. We've all seen stars who didn't know when to quit, and who ended their careers on sad notes. Better this way, I think.

Not a one. But I don't feel bad at all, since I went to the hospital in cognito -- well, it was 11 p.m. when I got there. I checked in at 4 a.m., after a bunch of failed tests showed no problems with me. I guess if you don't know what's going on with your body and it certainly isn't working right and the emergency room doctors can't figure it out, then you best have another doc take a look. This kind of thing isn't cheap, though, even with good health insurance.

Oh, man! I totally thought this post was going to be about that kid who was 12 in 1972 and was collecting get well cards and the memo is going around the Internet and around the world still -- I wanted to see how he and his grandkids are doing these days ;-)

Glad to hear you're feeling better, though, Mathias. Did you collect any cards?

I’ve come pretty close to buying a Wii myself in the past few weeks. My girlfriend and I visited some friends who had a Wii, and it was a blast. The only bad part was the sore arms I had the next day from bowling, tennis and baseball. I’ve resisted the Wii temptation so far, but I don’t know how long that’ll last.

I'm not a big Wii fan. My Xbox suits me just fine. Last Sunday, I got a ride home from a friend and we played some "Halo 2" -- ancient, I know. It was my biggest night ever! I beat my friend, Chuck, and my darling wife in three straight games.

My wife went to bed at midnight, and Chuck and I decided to play one last game. Unlimited kills. The game ended at 4 a.m., when we realized how late it was.

I was leading 140-40. He says he had 48 kills, but I would contend that the final eight kills were probably done while I was in the kitchen getting a before-bed snack.

I played Wii with my best

I played Wii with my best friend and my 14-year-old niece and I unabashedly got my behind whipped -- in baseball, bowling and tennis. I'm just grateful that my friend's 8-year-old and 12-year-old sons weren't home at the time or pain medication would have been necessary, I'm sure.

I've never really owned a video game system -- unless Pong counts. My mom had the one with the Mario Bros. and Duck Hunter games on it (I can't remember whose system that is!) until my brother gave her his PlayStation when he got PlayStation 2.

This summer, my niece spent about a month at my brother's house in Louisiana -- after our trip to my friend's house -- and she talked him into buying a Wii to help keep her entertained while he was at work. She wasn't, however, able to convince him to let her take it back to Indiana with her. She didn't get PS 2 either.

Right now, I'm world champion in my household for the computer games of Mahjong and Poppit. Nobody has to know that nobody else at my house plays these games.

I wish Blockbuster still

I wish Blockbuster still did the "rent-a-system" thing because I would really like to try it out. I am interested in trying one out, but I dont' want to go out and plop all that money down on something I haven't played.

Of course, there in lies the problem, I really should plop ANy money down on a game system. Hard to justify spending that kind of money when I don't play as often anymore anyway.

Still, I would love to have the chance to try it out a few times.
