Mitt Romney has suspended his campaign for President. There are now 3 GOP candidates left in the race: McCain, Huckabee, and Ron Paul.

the GOP caucus for St. Lawrence Township last night. There were 6 of us.

I like roundabouts. I used to live in Chaska near one and loved it. There were so many people who would drive it and not know how to use it and that is what makes them dangerous. The worst were people who would turn and drive them the wrong way.

Aside from the one on 13

Aside from the one on 13 between St Patrick and 19, where are the other ones in the NP area?

Last year we came back from Europe, where the roundabouts are plentiful, and I had to get used to the normal 4-way stops again here in the states.

You know, I never really realized how many annoying intersections there were in town. While I think Creek Lane and 282 is the most dangerous, I’d definitely say that the new roundabouts in New Prague bother me quite a lot.

Since 1890, each print

Since 1890, each print edition of the Jordan Independent has been saved in one of several bound books owned by the paper. The collection is missing several papers, I assume, since I see that a few years ago the paper regularly and prominently touted that it was established in 1884.

The oldest remaining issues of the JI, which are from the 1890s, are out of the sunlight. Those would be the issues for which I would be most concerned. Some of the bound from the 1910s and on see the sun, but they are preserved within the bound books.

Yes, newspaper print would definitely fade if the books were to be left out in the light, a bigger concern than sunlight is handling. Most of these books are handled infrequently. They need to be handled gently, because any tearing that occurs might result in a permanent loss of Jordan's and the newspaper's collective histories.

I appreciate your concern, kthill. It shows an urgency for important history to be preserved and remembered. Southwest Newspapers, the JI's parent company, is planning to remodel the JI office soon, and careful consideration will be put into the future storage location of those bound editions.

It troubles me that I see what looks like old bound Independent issues basking in the sunlight of your western window. Are the binders they are in sufficient to protect the old newsprint?

I’ve never been a hunter

I’ve never been a hunter myself, although I have acted as a guide on a squirrel hunting expedition. I do love venison, though. And that deer looks to have a lot of meat on it, not to mention a lot of antlers. What do hunters do with the deerskins around Jordan? My cousin is trying to make himself a coat and a pair of moccasins.

I was just so surprised by the story when I first came across it. When people come to visit me in Jordan and I give them a tour of the town, the waterfall is always one of my favorite spots to take people. Every person I’ve brought there has said it is his or her favorite part of town.

R. W. Johnson

This might be 'old news' but the idea is still scary. Anyone who thinks, even briefly, that this might be a good idea deserves (a) to have an early frost decimate his garden and (b) to have it rain upon his newly washed car (but not his garden).
As a kid in the 1930's, I remember climbing on the 'fish ladder' and watching fish try to go upstream.
My thought is 'Leave the d... Dam alone.'
