As far as the forum goes, I think the short amount of time might be OK, given the fact that this is the first time the chamber has done a forum. Organizers of the event know people are interested -- not just how interested -- and are feeling out the waters.

The chamber is also serving an important purpose in the election. It is very clear that voters want more information and that they use various channels, not just a newspaper or a Web site or a forum, to find out what they want to know. We want our information now and via the media we like.

I wasn't referring to the newspaper's coverage but more about what we would be hearing in the short time allowed at the Wednesday nite forum by the candidates. Though I have missed a few articles here or there, what I have read in the paper have been informative.

Each candidate answered nine questions written by me. If they had used all of the allowed space, they would have written up to 675 words each. These are not exactly sound bytes -- that's a long story each and a total of as many as 6,750 words on city issues. The candidates offered a lot of thorough answers.

So many times, we don't know who the candidates are personally, so I've added annual feature stories about candidates to the mix as a way to fill the void and get people interested in the candidates. Once you know a person a little bit, you might feel more inclined to read what he or she thinks about the issues, I think. It's extra work for me, but it's good reading for you. Hopefully, it serves a valid purpose.

I'm happy to take suggestions about how to improve the coverage, but to say that there was no coverage of the issues is just plain false.

If you missed the coverage in the paper, see the PDF online until Friday or attend the candidate forum on Wednesday night at the high school.

Yea, let's hope that some of our candidates don't get too long-winded or we won't be able to hear everyone's views. The paper did do a nice job of giving us some background on the people running, but it would be good to hear their replies to specific questions concerning present & future plans for the city.

Westender73, you're right, it isn't enough time to cover all the issues. Still, it's better than nothing. I haven't been informed of any additional fora, so it looks like Wednesday night is it.

I'll stick around after the forum to answer questions from anyone who wants to ask. Probably, most of the other candidates will do the same.

Being another former Miss

Being another former Miss Jordan, I also found the begining of your artical to be offensive. It is not fair to our newly crowned Miss Jordan to be introduced in such a negative way. However, I do recognize your apology, but I agree with the other Miss Jordan when she says that you owe more than just a small apology. You should direct it to the new royalty, the cordinators of the program, the chamber of commerce, and to all the past royalty.

Your editorial did come off

Your editorial did come off very negative and extremely offensive! As a former Miss Jordan I was very angry with the way in which you began your editorial. There were other readers I spoke to, who aren't even involved with the pageant in any way, that were equally as offended. You owe many people more than just your short apology here. It is a big accomplishment, a great honor, and something that someone should take great pride in, being crowned Miss Jordan, and you simply dismissed it to be nothing.

Brandon Otte shot this video, but I made a point to be at the Miss Jordan coronation, shooting a lot of photos and thoroughly enjoying it. Besides the championship match of the volleyball tournament and a rainy shift at the Lions food booth, the coronation was the main reason I went to Heimatfest.

It's a big deal to be crowned Miss Jordan, a worthy accomplishment.

Sorry if my editorial this week came off a little bit negative. In retrospect, emphasis should've been placed on the many positive things about the annual competition.
