Right now, the students are probably getting ready for their performance, and they’ve got an afternoon of partly cloudy skies with a high of 85 degrees coming up. I love that today in Jordan is bright, sunny and clear, but where’s my 85 degree day?

It’s too bad about the car, but I guess I’m more concerned about the pickles. This post gave me a craving for Gedney Zingers or Milwaukee baby dills.

I had never been to the arboretum before I rode along with the high school Environthon team. I’ll definitely be back, though. It was very pretty there and I could easily see spending an entire day walking through the woods, marshes, and gardens on display.

In the quest

R. W. Johnson

In the quest for journalistic accuracy, I hope the 'turkey' is clearly and accurately identified. We might not all have the same idea as to what constitutes a 'turkey'.

R. W. Johnson
Years ago,

R. W. Johnson

Years ago, living in SW Minnesota, we had a lady helping out at our house by the name of Phil Welch from Jordan. Her father, at that time and earlier, was a contract thresher (I think this was in the 20's and 30's). He had a big old steam engine, pulled a threshing machine, and went from farm to farm threshing oats, barley and wheat. Some of the grain was stack threshed and some brought in from the field by neighbors helping out with a team and wagon (with a hay rack). Morning and afternoon lunch was brought out to the field and the noon meal was more accurately called a feast. Kinda like 'Thanksgiving' every day. Is anyone, still alive in Jordan, who might remember this forerunner of 'modern' contract harvesters?
