I might be looking for a new house soon. That'd be a great blog. Do you think they'd cover those expenses?

Other ways to take maximum advantage of newspapers that pay reimbursements:

- a European travel blog

- stories about war (I hear that insurance for trips to Qatar, Israel, Afghanistan, and/or Iraq comes at astounding prices.)

- a blog about going back to school at a high-priced university

Hmmmm ... Southwest Newspapers, beware. Your employees are conspiring to use your money for their personal enjoyment. Not that you won't get something out of the deal, though.

Actually, I was thinking I would start a "Wedding Planning" blog instead. That could save my poor parents some serious moola.

You know, that’s the question I get asked most often. Maybe if I bought a hot plate and brought it into work to cook while at work, then it might be considered a work expense.

That'd be a good scam for a reporter to pull, but no, he will not be eating on the JI for more than a month. Were you going to try this -- spending all of the company's money on food -- at that darling little newspaper in Chaska?

Hey Brandon - is the JI covering the expenses for all of your kitchen experimentations or just for a fire extinguisher in case the worst should happen?

Sorry to disappoint all the ladies out there, but I don’t believe either of the above statements are true – I’m not single, nor can I really cook. Before this experiment, my meals consisted of peanut butter sandwiches or (if I was lucky) canned soup. The only difference now is that I’ve got recipes to follow and incentive to follow them.

I just really love Peanut butter and especially Bacon. Bacon goes well with everything. If you asked me the things I love most in life I would say bacon, my wife and kids and fishing.

Probably in that order too. Shhh.... don't tell my wife that!

The recipe does make my mouth water.

My grandma makes something similar to this with water chestnuts in the middle. She makes them for our family Christmas every year, and they’re pretty darn good. She never has to worry about them cooling down, though, because its sort of a race between my cousins and myself to see who can get to these first. We usually load up our plates with the bacon bites before heading back a second time and sampling the rest of the food.

Did someone say pig?

The

Did someone say pig?

The only thing better than cooking and eating bacon is learning what combinations go together oh so well!

This is one of my favorite recipes with bacon because there is just something about combining salt and sugar that makes my mouth water just thinking about it:

Smoky Bacon Wraps

INGREDIENTS

1 pound sliced bacon

1 (16-ounce) package miniature smoked sausage links

1 cup packed brown sugar

DIRECTIONS

Cut each bacon strip in half widthwise. Wrap one piece of bacon around each sausage.

Place in a foil-lined (THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T LINE THE PAN IN FOIL, YOU MAY AS WELL PLAN ON THROWING IT AWAY!) 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees F for 30-40 minutes or until bacon is crisp and sausage is heated through.

There is no way to screw this recipe up unless you burn them -- and make sure the pan is on a middle rack in the oven or your are going to need that broom again.

In party settings, these little yummies tend to cool off quickly, but I don't like them kept in the crock pot. Instead, I serve them in a glass bowl that can be popped into the microwave for a quick warm up. Of course, that's considering they even make it to the party!
