Prince is great - i sat in the front row on his Musicology tour and was blown away by what a great performance he puts on. Dylan is obviously a legend. But for this girl there's only one band that I will never grow tired of listening to, and that's The Replacements. An all around amazing band that came about at the right time in my life.

Last night I succumbed to the Diamond – I bought a three-CD set of Neil’s first solo recordings. In my defense, it was used, and it is awesome. “I am, I said,” addicted.

My favorite band is MxPx. Originally, the band had a rotten name, Magnified Plaid, so it decided to go by initials. The X's are periods, but you pronounce them when saying the "new" name of the band.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is one of the few "Something Something and the Something Somethings" names I like because it's funny and sort of making fun of that format.

I kind of like the name

I kind of like the name Death Cab for Cutie – it’s based on a song The Beatles sang in their weirdo TV special “Magical Mystery Tour.”

As for other favorite band names, I’ve got to give props to The Who, The New Pornographers, Eisley (named for a certain Star Wars space port), Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Relient K, Five Iron Frenzy, Styx, and The Zombies.

That doesn’t even include bands that have one of the musicians names in them – Sly and the Family Stone, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Duran Duran was another band

Duran Duran was another band really locked into the synth/'80s sound, not to mention to the over-the-top fashion style of the time, but for some reason they sound better to me now than 20-plus years ago. But I wouldn't want my friends to know that.

I kinda like the soundtrack of “Xanadu,” with songs by Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra. Aw, heck, I’ll come right out and say it – I like pretty much all of the output of the synth-heavy ELO, regardless of how powerfully uncool it makes me. And Newton-John isn't always bad, either.

The problem with my "guilty pleasure" music is that i readily admit having bad taste in music (and being stuck in a time warp). i had a print out of the lyrics to Copa Cabana hanging in my cube for a few years ... everytime i looked at them i got a huge smile on my face and chair-danced as the song played in my head. (now, that part is emabarassing to admit)

The Pixies Reunion show at

The Pixies Reunion show at the Fine Line had many goosebump inducing moments, but my favorite was "Where is My Mind". At the end of the song, the whole crowd was singing the oo-oo ooo's and it was just amazing to be there.

"Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve is one song that consistantly delivers the chills. It starts off so repetitive, but then "BAM!" the full symphony kicks in and it's beautiful and perfect in dynamics and timing. Whenever I hear that song - whatever mood I'm in, wherever I'm at - I will get goosebumps - it's inevitable.

My iPod may be headed for that great big playlist in the sky. I tried in vain for a good 20 minutes last night to restart and/or fix the thing. I’m hoping it doesn’t die completely. While I’d be happy to have a new iPod, I don’t know how easy it would be to go without until I could afford such a luxury.
