Breakfast today was an organic breakfast cookie whose flavor I wasn't sure of and which smelled like something I might feed my dog, but I ate it anyway.

My sister was kind enough to throw it at me as we were leaving a hotel in downtown Minneapolis this morning (she was in town on business and invited me to join her, so it was like a 10-hour vacation).

I just talked to her and she said it was peanut butter -- wouldn't have guess that -- and it was wheat-free due to her allergy that I wasn't aware she had. So, I apparently accidentally ate something healthy and good for me. Who knew?

MMMMM! What I would give for

MMMMM! What I would give for that meal right now!

I had a honey/almond/flax seed granola bar about 10 a.m. and I didn't bring lunch today since I couldn't find any leftovers in the fridge that appealed to me and the bread was old so I didn't want to make a sandwich. So far, I haven't gotten hungry or motivated enough to venture out for something to eat.

Quick update: I’m eating

Quick update: I’m eating my lunch right now, and it totally reminds me of my sack lunches in high school. My wife packed it, and it includes a cup of apple sauce, a sandwich, cheese curls, a dessert and a Kool Aid Blast drink. It’s like I’m in elementary school.

Well, there are six basic food groups now - grains, vegetables, fruits, fats and oils, milk and dairy products and meat/protien (beans, fish and nuts).

I'm not sure you touched all six. Seems like you missed a few.

Well, I decided to use a mixture of recipes and freestyle with my meal tonight. I’m going with an Italian theme, and I’ll be making a white wine cream sauce, cheese puffs, rolls, zucchini and tomato salad, and chicken.

I’m hoping it will be a pretty good meal, but I’m a little worried about the idea of going it on my own for most of the meal. Hopefully Molly will enjoy it. She, by the way, gets to bring the dessert, and that’s going to be a surprise for me. I can’t wait!

I still think it’s odd to eat so much water melon in the winter. Hot dogs, on the other hand, are a great summer food that brings back memories during the colder months.

I would guess the pies would be more palatable, but there’s no accounting for taste, I guess.

I’m interested to see what the Twins do this year, too, because I have absolutely no idea what to expect. In football, a sport with which I’m much more familiar, a young team could conceivably come out of nowhere to gel at the right time and make a strong run toward the postseason. I’m guessing the same could be true of a baseball team, too. But with the powerful teams already in place in Detroit and Cleveland, it’ll be tough for the young Twins to get into October.

I have made turkey burgers, turkey meatloaf, turkey spaghetti, and turkey chili. I think they taste great.

If you cook the burgers on a George Foreman grill, they come out nice and juicy.

They will not be dripping in fat like regular hamburger. :-)

Honey mustard tastes great with turkey burgers.
I use low salt ketchup too.

The couple times I've had turkey burgers, I thought they were kind of dry so I thought I prepared them wrong. Then I tried ground turkey in spaghetti sauce and, oddly enough, it seemed dry, too.

My daughter refuses to eat turkey burgers -- and she's usually willing to try anything (she even ate wallaby in Australia). On her first turkey burger encounter, she ended up putting five different kinds of mustard on it "to kill the taste."

Oh, well. So long as she'll still eat sushi, we're in business!
