“Under the Banner of Heaven” is on my bookshelf just waiting for me to take some time and crack it open. I’ve also heard great things about “Into Thin Air” and “Into the Wild,” so I’m excited to give Krakauer a shot.

I never leave home without a

I never leave home without a book -- you never know when there will be a waiting period that can be turned into reading time, like waiting for a train or in the drive-thru line of a bank or fast food restaurant or in a doctor's office.

I also am able to get a couple pages in during my morning bathroom rituals -- waiting for the shower water to get hot and while brushing my teeth.

I used to read while I was working out on my Nordic Trac, on which I spurged for the book holder option. However, the ol' Nordic Trac has become a sweater dryer these days (although, I have given it a go a couple of times recently)

I also used to read while I was driving -- a fact I admitted much to my husband's horror. Unfortunately, I no longer drive a Buick Regal, which had the best book holder/steering wheel of any car I've ever driven. Also, I don't have the drive on U.S. 30 in Indiana, where I only occasionally had to look up during the two-hour drive between my town and my sister's house. (OK, so I'm not really that irresponsible, but I confess to turning a page or two while driving, which is akin to today's driving while texting).

Finally, I almost always crawl into bed at night with a book or magazine regardless of how tired I am, just so I can get a page or two more in.

Harry Potter tonight!!!

Harry Potter tonight!!! Woooooo!!!

Unfortunately, I won't be buying the book tonight - I'll be out of town. But when I get back Sunday afternoon, I'm buying and immediately reading it.

I'm an impulse browser,

I'm an impulse browser, because I don't buy the books or take them home. I just read them in the store, while I'm waiting for my darling wife.

I am with J-Town on this

I am with J-Town on this one. You have to complete the set and then you can casaually hunt for the better one. No pressure. But if no other exist at least you already got one.

My experience is that as

My experience is that as soon as you stop looking for something and replace it (say, for example, remake the set of keys you lost), you will magically find it. So, the answer is simply to purchase the version you see online. Then you will be amazed how often you run across that volume of "Little Dorrit." It will appear magically in the mailbox there at the JI, OR perhaps you'll stop for gas on the way home to Wisconsin and the very volume you are seeking will be on sale at the flea market next to the gas station. Then, once you have two, you can sell one of them on e-bay.

You could always fall back

You could always fall back on cheating. Remember, it's not whether you find it or not -- it's the thrill of the hunt. And in the meantime, you have all those other Dickens stories to read.

Yeah, you’re probably right. But what would you say are my chances of finding the right book for my set if I leave it all to fate?

You're a cheater if you buy

You're a cheater if you buy it online. Trust the winds of fate, my friend. Search long and hard. If you wimp out, you'll never live it down.

And complete your set of books like we once spent full years completing sets of baseball cards, back when there were 720 or more cards in every set and packs of cards were 50 cents.

Dickens would have it no other way. No Internet for him. No way.

If you don't trust yourself

If you don't trust yourself alone with the remote in your apartment, Brandon, try taking the batteries out as soon as you click "OFF" after "Lost." Then, when your week is up, you can plan a scavenger hunt to remember what you did with those batteries! Or you can just do the unplug thing and the remote won't respond no matter how hard you mash the buttons.

Yea, outside of 'Lost' and a couple other shows, I'd have no problems. I'd just delve into some music, catch up on reading and get tons of projects done. Another person in the house, though, might be found in a corner in the fetal position muttering something about no tv.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Thanks for the well wishes. I was thinking I had a chance to make it the whole week until this morning. I casually grabbed the remote on my way to the kitchen and flipped on SportsCenter. It was on for a few minutes before I even realized what was up. I may be in trouble.

But missing “Lost” is exactly why I’m starting and ending on a Wednesday. If I haven’t already given in by Wednesday night, that will be my hardest test – having enough self control to not quit an hour early just for “Lost.”

I wouldn't want to miss an episode of 'Lost'. That's really the only show that I NEED to see every week. The other shows I watch I could miss and not feel "lost" if I missed a week here and there. I hope you make it the whole week, but I think the weather is conspiring against you. Good luck and cook safely!

How can anyone think of

How can anyone think of 'giving up' TV when programs such as 'Deal or No Deal' grace the airwaves. To see people try 'the luck of the draw' to win up to $1,000,000. is an enlightening experience. Hind sight is always - 20/20 - (you may already know that) but one of the overwhelming factors in 'Deal or No Deal' is greed. Contestants put 100 or several hundred thousand dollars ... they heve already won .... at risk hoping to get just a bit more. The problem is 'knowing when to fold them', and 'know when to walk away and know when to run'. Some drive home with 'what Paddy shot at'.
