If the Twins could still

If the Twins could still get Melky Cabrera (or better-yet Jacoby Ellsbury) in a Johan deal, that would be great, and then Young would be a great LF. And Kubel could compete for the DH spot. I could go for that.

Of those guys up top there, I also wouldn't mind Tony Clark and/or Pedro Feliz.

Nobody else on that list really does a lot for me. I like LoDuca, but the Twins don't need him. I like Freddy Garcia maybe, and Dotel, but I don't see the Twins spending to get them. And reportedly, Herges, Matsui, Loretta, and Wood already have (or are about to) sign with other teams, which makes sense because they are the only quality ones on that list.

I kind of like Conine as a DH/backup 1B, LF, RF. That wouldnt' be a bad signing to me, and I could actually see that as a "Twins type" move. And I also wouldnt' mind them actually keeping Craig Monroe if it is cheap to see if he can turn things around to where he was two years ago.

And, yes, I could live with Kubel as an everyday player. He needs a chance.

I'm not going to hold that

I'm not going to hold that against our new left-center fielder. He was young and I'm sure he learned his lesson.

The video is funny after the fact (knowing the ump didn't get hurt).

Yeah, because I wouldn't be opposed to Delmon Young playing in center field. Don't know if he can, but he probably didn't get much of a shot at it in the clogged outfield of Tampa Bay. Plus, a lot of competition for a job might light a fire under Jason Kubel, who hasn't exactly shown his top prospect ways yet.

I wouldn't have traded Young if I was the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and I couldn't have predicted this trade working out so well for the Twins outfield situation. Young is better than any of the players listed in the above blog.

"I'm hoping Jason Kubel

"I'm hoping Jason Kubel takes over left field permanently."

Are you still hoping this after yesterday's trade?

Looks like Kubel will take over as our every day pinch hitter - permanently.

Looks like the Mets have

Looks like the Mets have had talks with Bill Smith too....

OK, let the bidding begin. The more the merrier, just jack up the price for Johan more....just don't let it get too jacked up that teams don't end up wanting to deal.

They could go into next season with Johan and then if things don't go well, trade him at the deadline. But I think they might be shooting themselves in the foot offer-wise if they go that route.

Well, well. With the new news (if it can be called that) the Yanks and Twins are talking...

OK, NY you want Johan? The Twins will take Joba and/or Hughes, and Melky Cabrera and Eric Duncan and maybe something else too. That is where the talks start and end. I think they need Cabrera, Duncan (who is a 3B) and at least one of the pitchers. Maybe even throw in Shelley Duncan, who can play DH and hit for power.

Kerry Wood is gone. Not

Kerry Wood is gone. Not that it was going to happen anyway. You know which pitcher the Twins are going to sign........exactly, none of them.

I would take, let's see, that Dodgers deal for Johan that gives the Twins Matt Kemp, Andy LaRoche, and Clayton Kershaw. And go get someone that can play DH.

Kubel, Kemp and Cuddyer in the OF; Morneau, Punto (because you know they are going to stick with him), Bartlett and LaRoche around the infield; Mauer catching; Monroe DH'ing, (hopefully they can bring someone else in as well), then a staff of Baker, Liriano, Garza, Slowey and Boof. But they really need to know Liriano is going to be ready. Maybe get a moderately priced pitcher just in case and start Liriano in the pen, until you're sure he is ready.

No, that team isnt' going to win any pennants, but at least it is young and interesting. I think that is all you can hope for right now.

Agreed on all accounts. We

Agreed on all accounts. We got a great deal in the trade for Eric Milton, who has since flopped mightily. Milton's also a free agent this winter.

Yesterday, a story in the St. Paul Pioneer Press said Silva might fetch $9 million, not $10 million, I guess. Whatever.

There are eight pitchers on the market who I'd rather have than Silva. Don't know if we could get them as cheaply as Silva, though. They are John Thomson, Freddie Garcia, Matt Clement, Bartolo Colon, Livan Hernandez, Matt Herges, Brian Lawrence, and Kerry Wood.

That kind of money for Silva

That kind of money for Silva shows just how much pitching is at a premium.

I like Silva, but at the back end of your rotation. And the Twins can't afford $10 million for a fourth a fifth starter.

Silva deserves to get paid though, despite the average stats. If he had a little better run suppport, he might have gone 16-12. He's a decent pitcher - not great by any means - but he can eat innings, he throws strikes and he's been pretty durable.

Seriously!?!? That was it? Wow, what a great draft night, McHale! According to ESPN analysts, you picked up a guy who needed to become stronger and work on his shooting, and college role player. Where’s Kobe? Where’s the blockbuster trade? Where is any player that should give the fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves hope that they won’t be Garnett-free and in the lottery again next year?

Is it any wonder I prefer the San Antonio Spurs to my hometown team? They know how to play the game of basketball from the court all the way up through team administration.

Here’s my solution for the Wolves: they should become the team where all disgruntled players from other teams come to play.

The starting five, as I see it in this scenario, would include Kevin Garnett at power forward, Paul Pierce at small forward, Pau Gasol at center, Kobe Bryant at shooting guard, and Chauncey Billups at point guard.

That’d be a championship contender for sure.

The talk with the Lakers

The talk with the Lakers sounded like a terribly raw deal. A handful of guys who aren't the go-to players on the team for KG who IS the go-to star. Like it or not, KG is the core of the Wolves. If he does get traded to whatever team it may end up being, they need a prospect who could be THAT guy or a top 5 or 6 draft pick that McHale won't go and waste on some clunky big man. Regardless of what happens, the next season or four won't be good for the T-Wolves. It's time to wheel and deal and see what they can get in way of picks and prospects for the "talent" they have.
