This sounds like a really cool art contest. I’m no artist, but I think even I might give this a shot.

I’ll be making corn beef and cabbage – well, Rueben sandwiches and fried cabbage, anyway. Anyone else have any cool St. Patty’s Day plans?

Do you have to be a registered member of a political party to participate in a caucus? On the secretary of state Web site, they explain that caucuses are free and open to the public, but that to participate you must support or be likely to support the party in question. But that doesn’t say if you actually have to be a member, so I'm a little confused.

"Since he actually likes

"Since he actually likes that movie series?"

Are you saying that George Lucas didn't like his Star Wars series? I doubt that.

The Indy movie has a name, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Should be seeing previews soon.

Also, one of the entertainment magazines had a story and interviews with Harrison Ford, Lucas and Spielberg on the set, with a few photos. Provided soem intersting things and piqued my interest. Can't wait to see it. It has a few movie thoughts in it, but isn't a real spoiler. If you don't want to know anything, don't read it. If you do, I suggest reading it.

One of my favorite quotes from the story went something like this from Spielberg or Lucas, "I know the critics are going to hate it. They already hate it." and they haven't seen it yet. Interesting.

I don't necessarily like movie critics, and thusly don't like movie awards shows most times. It isn't all about artistic perfection. Sometimes you just want to shut your brain off for a few hours and watch a movie that captures you. I am OK with "audience movies." I tend to lead to those types.

I’m still a fan, too, but I choose to think of the movie series as only New Hope, Empire, and Jedi. No Indy preview this weekend, though, so I’m a little bummed.

Lucas didn't mess up "Star Wars" enough for me to stop being a fan. I doubt he could mess up "Indy," since he actually likes that movie series.

It hasn’t been officially announced, but I’d be willing to place a small wager on the idea of an Indiana Jones preview debuting during the Super Bowl on Sunday. I hope so, because it would almost make up for the fact that the Packers aren’t playing.

I’ve love the story of the Nutcracker ever since I was a little kid. It’s the whole idea of toys coming to life that also made me a fan of stories like “The Indian in the Cupboard” and “Toy Story.”

Kare-11 reports that the response to the event was so good that the organizers can't handle any more drop offs.

I voted again. Unless I’m missing something, I can’t find out how we’re ranking now that they’ve switched polling styles. That’s too bad. I’d like to see how our votes stack up.

Vote again please! I just

Vote again please! I just got this e-mail from the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Committee:

"Hello -

"Thank you for your nomination for our ‘Capitol for a Day' program. As you hopefully already know, voting began through the Sesquicentennial website on Monday. We were excited with the enthusiasm this project created! Unfortunately, there was a problem with our first voting system.

"The dilemma we faced was whether or not to cap the number of votes per computer. At first we decided to allow multiple votes to come from a single computer so that kids who share a computer in their classroom or individuals without a computer that use their local library for internet access could still get a chance to vote. To keep individuals to one vote per person we relied on the honor system. Sadly, many people took advantage of that system and cast multiple votes (sometimes hundreds) from the same computer in just a matter of minutes.

"We have decided we have no choice but to throw out all the votes from the first two-days the poll was open and change the system so that only one vote can come from any one computer. It is the only way to ensure a fair final vote count of one vote per person. We want everyone to be aware that the votes that were entered on Monday the 12th and Tuesday the 13th will not be added to the overall total. I f you voted during those two days - please vote again! The last day to vote has been pushed back to November 26th.

"This was an unfortunate decision we were forced to make. We hope you understand why we've decided to change the voting system and not use those initial ballots. We hope that you all, as the initial drivers of your communities' bids for this honor can help us spread the word about voting at www.mn150years.org in the new system.

"If you have any questions, please feel free to call me. We are all sorry for an y inconveniences this may have caused.

"Thank you,
"Community Outreach Coordinator"

I think college and saving

I think college and saving are two things that don’t really go together at all – how can students be expected to save when tuition keep going up and up. I tried to save money during college – I lived at home and worked an almost full-time job. Each semester I saved enough money to pay for the next semester. But once I made that payment, I was back to square one with an almost empty bank account.

Even with an emphasis on starting a savings plan while a child is young, the increasing tuition – growing at a rate more rapid than inflation – is going to make college too expensive for many (if not most) high school graduates.
