Meeting Change... the referendum forum will ONLY be held on Monday, October 27th at 6:30 pm at the JMS district offices. The meeting on Tuesday at the high school has been cancelled. It was supposed to be held in conjunction with a VB girls semi-finals but that is now being held in New Prague that evening. So we hope to see people on Monday. Thanks!

Referendum Information On

Referendum Information On The Way... As in the past, the district will do an informational referendum piece that all postal customers of Jordan will receive in the mail. The board decided to run the referendum approximately 4-5 weeks ago so that puts the mailing a bit behind normal schedule, but do look for it... it should arrive to Jordan homes the week prior to the election. Also the district Superintendent, Kirk Nelson, along with members of the board, will be holding two public forums to answer any questions the public may have... those meetings will be Monday, October 27th, 6:30 pm at JMS District office AND on Tuesday, October 28th, 6:30, JHS Lecture room.

There is no doubt that

There is no doubt that further cuts will really impact the education program in Jordan. With 30 days until the election I have still not seen any information about the referendum. Given the economic climate, the referendum will be tough to pass. The district needs to get information out to the public ASAP. There is nothing on the website, nothing that has been mailed, and, as far as I know, no public meetings. Another online user, Goldengopher, and myself have listed several questions on the JI's website. Answering those would be a good place to start. Even supporters of schools are getting frustrated not knowing what this is all about.

As bad as the education

As bad as the education program is in Jordan, they don't need to be cutting back anymore. I went to this school and I was thankful to be allow to go to vacational and I think the board shouldn't cut back that program and reducing the number of electives would not be good for future learners. Why cut back on the kids future. Is that what you really want. If that's so, I rather put my kid in a different school where there is better opportunities and options.

The schools funding as been

The schools funding as been cut so much. We do not need to cut it anymore. We should get mega fundraisers going on, simple cheap ones like bake sales and car washes to raise money for our school. The kids in this community deserve a good education. I've heard about schools cutting their days to four days a week just to save money on gas for buses, which should not happen in this town. We can't reduce the amount on buses because the buses are as full as they could possibly be, unless you cut picking up the kids who live in the developments behind the school.

School board hopes yes-vote will prevent major cutbacks

Jordan schools might soon face $425,000 in budget cuts this year if voters don’t vote yes on a referendum to pay the same amount through property taxes.

Having already cut much out of the budget, some Board of Education members said the schools can’t cut anything else without compromising quality education.

“We’re running out of popular choices,” Chairperson Dan Buresh said during a special board meeting Monday.
