Hey Comp....talk about No

Hey Comp....talk about No Idea....there are alot of Free resources around the school that can be used for float material. I know the art teachers were always ready to supply paints and paper for floats. We had what were called float competitions, which each teacher representing a class. It got everyone envolved, they even gave us class time during the weeks leading up to homecoming to work on them.

I never said the school didn't have spirit, I think alot of the kids show great spirit, however it has been that way for years. You want to see some amazing "Air Jams" pull out some tapes from 86-92....and yes there tapes, we didn't have dvd's back then. I have been to a few years of air jams and also watched the air jams from this year, they were good, but lacked the "Air Jam" part, to me it was just alot of dancing.

And last, you say " you have no idea how much spirit this school has. The fact that it is even here is amazing." The fact that what is here? The school, its here because of the great taxpayers of Jordan. Just hope the taxpayers say "Yes" to the referendum to run the school this year.

Wow, Jason, Way to get off

Wow, Jason, Way to get off track. We can do nothing about the floats. People sign up for floats, and no one helps them out usually. You say you want better floats in the parade, then get involved it in. You give the kids money for the floats, you give them your time to make a '"real" float'. I'm sure they would appreciate it. And spirit... you have no idea how much spirit this school has. The fact that it is even here is amazing. Complaining about something is not a way to get the school back to that spirit you want to see. "You have to be the change you want to see in the world." We have many of the kids in school dress up for the dress up days, and many of them go all out on them. The Homecoming Air Jams are amazing, and the number of kids who show up at games is quite amazing.

Wow. All I can say is be

Wow. All I can say is be glad the band has only had ONE director for awhile. And I use the word "awhile" loosely. I joined JHS band as soon as Mr. Klehr offered lessons (5th or 6th grade) During my entire school career in Jordan (K-12) we had FOUR count them, FOUR band directors. Cliff Klehr first, then retired. Ms. Heidi Thelan (I think, its been awhile), second, replaced due to "accusations." Third, Mr. Webber, resigned. Fourth, my senior year, can't remember her name though....Miss something or other...
My point, at least this guy seems to care about the band in some aspect. Whether or not he likes marching band, I know the band does well in concert settings, and that says something. I personally feel that I didn't get that much out of band during the 6-7 years I was a member due to the incredible turnover in directors. Each director was so different in personality, musical tastes, etc. there was never any consistancy. Band trip to Florida? HA. NEVER happened. Oh, and the uniforms in discussion, we were fitted for those going into the 9th grade (class of 2001) I remember it was such a HUGE deal, because they were so "top of the line" and expensive. We had to take incredible care of those uniforms, that sadly, we barely ever wore due to the complete chaos caused by high turnover in directors.
It was great being able to wear those brand new custom fit uniforms with pride----when it wasn't too hot or humid.
In my opinion, a quality director is more important than "nice, community pride inspiring" uniforms. Both would be great, but can't we be happy that we at least have the important part covered?

Since were talking

Since were talking parade.....what ever happened to the "REAL" floats of homecoming...not just the "hey let's pile 20 kids on a hay wagon and call it a float." I remember when each class made a float, the teachers took charge, and man were there some nice ones. They were brought to the field and showed off to everyone. Some of them were so good looking you would have thought the "Tournament of Roses" parade was in town. Sure would be nice to see that "spirit" shown again.

Kay. Homecoming is still

Kay. Homecoming is still more about school spirit and sports than it is the town. these things bring the community together, yes, but it doesn't make it a formal event where uniforms should have to be.

Of course we are passionate about this subject. It has to deal with our people, our friends.

Homecoming is very much

Homecoming is very much about town. Homecoming is about welcoming back people to the community and the school. They celebrate people coming back for this annual event by having a parade. A big part of this homecoming celebration is the Annual Homecoming football game.

I am sorry I wasn't able to see this year's parade as I was meeting with a client at my business in town. I did attend last year's parade and that is where the original comments came from about the band not wearing their uniforms in the parade. The meeting in which I questioned the superintendent about the band wearing uniforms happened on Thursday evening, the day before homecoming.

I am happy to see your passion on the subject, though.

Ray, Homecoming is not about

Ray, Homecoming is not about the town. Homecoming is about school spirit and maroon and gold; it is about spray painting your hair maroon. That is what we go to school for. To show spirit for our schools sports teams. The fact that we were uniforms for all other parades should mean something. The fact that you didn't even watch this years parade should actually mean you have no business sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong. You didn't see it.

I may have been the one that

I may have been the one that made mention to the superintendent about this issue. I was not able to make the parade this year but after last year's parade I could not beleive that the band was not in uniform. Homecoming is about coming home to what is great about our alma mater, it is not about painting your hair maroon and gold. I do like the school spirit and I hope it continues, but for those in the band this is game day, the day you practice for and the day everybody looks forward to. This is the day you wear the uniform, polish the shoes and all that goes into it. I think you should want to strap on the uniform and look your best as you march through town with everyone looking on. I think not wearing the uniforms for events like this, especially homecoming is like the football team wearing their practice clothes to the big game. For the students in the band I think you do a great job and should be proud. To the leaders of the band, you need to take charge and look at the big picture.

What is going on here? I have to agree with the band member and suggest that being decked out in school colors is a great way to show school spirit and energize Homecoming. There have been two blog's posted about the district's referendum (goldengopher and gramps40) with no responses, but people are calling the superintendent about whether the band wears uniforms or not in the Homecoming parade. C'mon folks, there is no issue here.

Hundreds and hundreds of us

Hundreds and hundreds of us over the years put up with heat [and cold I might add] in those polyester nightmares. Not wearing them at school sanctioned events takes something away from that event, makes it less than right, even seems to lean towards simple sloppiness.

I understand you comment about showing school spirit, however wearing a uniform to me shows alot of school spirit. I played the TUBA (might be the best instrument in the band) for all 6 years of high school. We ALWAYS wore our uniforms.....and if you want to see "hot" uniforms, pull out the old heavy ones from the 80's and early 90's. We also marched in alot more parades. I have been real disappointed with the band in the past few years, not playing at things where they should be playing at...this years Volleyball Homecoming game on Tuesday was one of them. You can still show off you school spirit by wearing your band uniform.

Band Uniform Comments: Homecoming

Yesterday was Jordan's homecoming. That means the Jordan Highschool band marches in the parade. It's a tradition for the band members to be decked out in maroon and gold, like true J-town Fanatics! However, some people are not happy with that. Instead they found it neccesary to complain, even to the superintendent, that they were not wearing their uniforms. As a member of the band myself, I found this hurtfull and disrespectfull. Especially since I had a lot of fun showing my school spirit by decorating myself in my school colors, which included my jeans that I had painted this summer.
