That sounds like a really

That sounds like a really cool musical project. You’ll have to share some of your songs when you’ve recorded them!

I’m a big fan of Wilco. As far as newer alt-country bands, I’d also suggest some of my favorites: Neko Case, Tom Waits, and Calexico. As for the older music, I should clarify that it’s more California country by the likes of the Grateful Dead (especially “American Beauty”), the Byrds (especially “Sweetheart of the Rodeo”), New Riders of the Purple Sage, Poco, and The Eagles. I might also suggest some of the bands I’ve heard only a bit of – like Plainsong, Graham Parsons, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, the Jayhawks, and Dillard and Clark. That’s all I’ve got, though.

One of the best parts of listening to a genre like country-esque rock that I’ve never really been into before is the joy of discovering good new music. So I’m still in the process of digging into some CDs and songs that I’ve never heard before.

My husband and I, along with

My husband and I, along with some friends are working on an alt country style album about growing up in South Dakota. We've been listening to some of Whiskeytown, Uncle Tupelo, Ryan Adams, Wilco, Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle for inspiration. I think the Flying Burrito Brothers would be a good addition to that list. Any other artist that you think might bring some more musical inspiration?

At work I listen to 89.3 The

At work I listen to 89.3 The Current. That is usually where I discover any new music. I keep a running list of songs that I think I'd like to download for my iPod.
At home I've really been in a classic sort of mood. I've been enjoying some Etta James, Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye and Louis Armstrong. The music is relaxing and on some of the albums you can hear the record player fuzz and I enjoy that. Of course, my daughter is constantly asking me to play "My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas, but that's simply unacceptable. I think she just likes to hear me rant about how stupid I think that song is.

Country music -- K102. Ten

Country music -- K102. Ten years ago, I did not listen to country music much. I grew up with it but had favored the 80's and early 90's stuff. Now, I don't like the pop music at all.

My favorite artists: Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw,
Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Brooks & Dunn. Yes, I like Garth Brooks too but would like to hear more new stuff from him.

For some reason, lately

For some reason, lately I’ve been into country rock from the late 1960s and early 1970s. I went through a phase of listening to roots rockers and rocking gospel songs, but now I’m stuck on some twangy songs by the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers and even some new folk by the band The Be Good Tanyas.

What songs are playing at your house, at your office, or in your car these days? What kind of music has you tapping your feet to the beat?
