I'm asking the question

I'm asking the question because I think the Bible says to give more than 10 percent. I've heard dozens of sermons about giving 10 percent, and maybe that's just a benchmark goal.

But there were years -- granted I was much younger with no mortgage or other debt -- during which I gave more than 10 percent of my salary. It wasn't easy, but I am so glad I did it.

I believe a true tithe is giving your church as much as you can happily give. Whether it is a million dollars or a penny is not of consequence.

Anybody agree? Disagree? Don't want to talk about it?

I’ve always tried to tithe

I’ve always tried to tithe and to give some of my money back to – not necessarily the church, but someone actively working for God. I don’t really know what percent I’d say I keep, though, because it changes every month.

I think we are called to give what we can to help those around us. For some people, that comes in the form of service and acts because those are the skills with which they’ve been gifted. For others, it comes in the form of monetary donations. Is 10 percent a fast rule? Probably not, but we should be giving and giving willingly.

To tithe or not to tithe ...

To tithe or not to tithe ... that is my question. What percentage of your income or mine is the appropriate amount to give to church? Ten percent? Or is that just an Old Testament rule that's long gone?
