I think the platform is fine. The Republicans actually have a platform but to get elected politicians to follow it or even to get candidates to follow it seems to be difficult. Failure to keep with your priciples allow you to be dragged way off course. It will be the downfall of the election for Republicans. The success of Mark Buesgens and even the success of the late Paul Wellstone (Mark will love that I used his name in the same sentence)I think, can be traced to the idea that you know where they stand, whether you agree with them or not they don't waver from their principles.

This year the democratic platform is "We are not George Bush". Unfortunately many republicans are doing the same thing. Neither candidate for president have shown that they have priciples.

The issues our country has faced since and including 9-11 have been without cause by either party but much blame has been placed on the President. He has done many things correctly, especially the tax cuts. The Presidents biggest problem is he spends like a Democrat.

The Republicans need to move to the right of President Bush not to the left. To be conservative means to rely on oneself for financial needs. A belief in limited government regulation of business and for that matter investing. Allowing the markets to work on their own. A belief in a strong national defense.

It is my belief that much of what happened with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were caused by lack of oversight in a regulated entity. This wasn't a problem of lack of regulation. If you load something with regulations then you need to police it and that was the failure of congress in this particular case. And those entrusted with the oversight were the thieves.
