Yep. Like you said in your column this week, some teachers assign their students to do these kinds of things as maybe a lesson in long-range thinking. In late elementary school, I think, I made a list of something like 100 goals for my life.

Recently, the list turned up and then disappeared again. I achieved these two goals that I remember being on the list: become a Minnesota Twins season ticket holder and travel to Paris (did it twice).

A couple goals on which I guess I'm still working are writing a book (haven't decided on the topic yet), have two kids (not in the nearest future), and own a limousine (doubt this one will ever happen, but maybe I could drive one).

I would add the following to the list:

- be a better husband;

- be a better newspaper editor;

- learn how to speak Spanish;

- sit on a church board of directors;

- ride in a hot-air balloon;

- parasail;

- get my personal finances organized;

- and hit a Major League fastball (do goals have to be achieveable?).

Beyond these goals that I've named off the top of my head, I have many more aspirations. They keep me going and keep life interesting.
