Yeah, they should do more

Yeah, they should do more shows about petty theft, domestic "situations" that gets resolved with a quick police call, noise complaints, water-ordinance violations, and gas drive-offs. Boring stuff to get kids to turn off the tube once a week.

As a journalist, I agree

As a journalist, I agree "Almost Famous" is a great movie, but not about journalism. One of my favorite flicks about journalism is "All the Presidents Men."

But here is another one you should check out if you haven't seen it, "The Paper." I thought they did a fairly good job depicting the trade.

Another great journalism movie is "Shattered Glass." It is about Stephen Glass, a great writer, but a fraud of a journalist who used to write for The New Republic.

Doctor shows, and most cop

Doctor shows, and most cop shows are so ridiculously over the top. I think my favorite unbelievable show has got to be “CSI.” I mean, how many absurd crimes have they solved in a few short years? And “24” also routinely stretches the bounds of believability.

Thorachotomy tray in E.R.
I

Thorachotomy tray in E.R.

I was a big fan of the television show E.R. for several years, and noticed that every other episode had an Intern asking for a Thorachotomy (chest cracking) tray.

On a flight back from Chicago once, I spoke with a Doctor who did his Internship at HCMC, the Minneapolis Equivalent of the hospital in the show. I asked him how may times in his 4 years that he actually cracked someones chest, and he said he had NEVER done it. If someone required open heart surgery, they would be moved to surgery where a Cardiologist would perform the procedure.

That's Hollywood for ya!

Have you ever watched a movie or TV show that supposedly shows your job and think to yourself, “Yeah, right!”? (While I’m not a teacher, as the son of two teachers I watched NBC’s “Teacher
