One point you miss is that the hockey fighting camp put on by Derek Boogaard was in Canada not Minnesota. They may have a little more open view of hockey fights up there I would believe. Their culture revolves around hockey and Hockey Night in Canada. However, there even were parents that were against the camp up there. There also were many that were really in favor of the camp.

Also I do believe Wayne Gretsky was in at least one fight in his career. I think he might have squared off against our boy Neal Broten in an NHL game. As I remember it was more like a basketball fight with a lot of slap punching and no real ambition to get hurt. Maybe they could have used the fight camp?

There is no place for fighting in youth Hockey. For anyone who really enjoys the skill of the game, they would agree. While I am not saying that on the professional level they should ban it. For sure on all the other levels, skills needs to be taught. There are many greats like Wayne Gretsky that probably were never in a fight in a game, because you can't score a goal in the penalty box. Anyway, why would we want to establish an environment where kids can bully one another when we are putting so much effort into taking any violence out of the schools? Just my thoughts..

Every time I think I have heard it all, I am harshly reminded that there are a lot of things out there I never dreamed possible. In this case it is a hockey fight camp for kids.
