About 'democratizing' the Middle East... does this fit the task?... "They said it couldn't be done; with a smile he went right to do it; he tackled the job that couldn't be done; and found he couldn't do it." The military went in, did their job, and in short order toppled Saddaam (Mission Accomplished), now comes the hard part.

I read an article the other day professing we need a 'Plan for Failure' just as we need (today's elusive and undefinable) 'Plan for Victory'. The person being quoted was no less than Lee Iacocca, former Chairman and Savior of Chrysler, (hardly a bleeding heart Liberal), making the comment IN THE SENSE, asking if we know when to when to declare 'Misson Accomplished' (and it appears we do not). That we not be the compulsive gambler who chases, trying to recover, losses to the bitter end, Then losing the last dollar. The 'Democrats' have provided the funding but ask the President to provide his plan as to when he will call 'VICTORY'. Even his fellow Republicans are crying, 'Where do we go from here?'. The funding is there (and you know it Mr. President), tell us your plan, sign the bill, don't keep searching for the 'last man to die'. We should alreaady be past that point. No one accuses the 'Military' of 'losing the war'. But many agree with and quote 'Generals-in-the-field' who say a 'military victory is no longer possible'. We are losing the 'pipe dream' that we can solve the Mid-East problem with bullets.

That’s well said. I have a friend who is serving in Iraq right now. When I last saw him (he was able to come home on leave for Christmas), he also pointed out that his unit was doing some good things in Iraq – working with children and helping to rebuild infrastructure. At the same time, though, he doesn’t see much progress toward a victory.

I agree that there isn’t a clear-cut plan from either side, and I don’t know what that plan should entail.

I think both sides should have had a better plan, and all I hope for is that the Dems quit "playing" with our military personnel. Being in the military myself, I hate the fact that they keep saying "they're against the war, but for the military", but yet they want to cut war funding, and add BS extras (funding for spinach farms and peanut storage among others) to war funding bills (see HR1591).

Between the media not showing the good things we're accomplishing (building schools, hospitals, water treatment plants, and other infrastructure) and the Dems talking about that we've already lost the war, and that they want to cut funding, it's very demoralizing - even for those of us stationed here in the states.

If they *really* want to support the military, and get our troops home, they'll fully fund what the military needs so that we can finish up and get home.

To quote Senator Bob Dole (R, KS)... 'The Devil is in the details'. Is this 'Plan B' to be used if Plan A has a few kinks? I think the cartoon 'balloon' is attached to the wrong character. I ask my wife, when home projects become a mess, 'Well, what do you want me to do now?'. She says, 'You should have thought of that before you started'.
