Update: I watched my first night of Tivo-TV last night. I returned from a Bible study halfway through the night’s episode of "Lost" I started watching, and with the fast-forward ability I was done with the show just a few minutes after the real episode finished. I can’t wait to get home tonight and find the TV treasures I have waiting for me.

Thanks for the advice. After your glowing recommendation in favor of DVR, I ordered my very own Tivo. It should be here today. I’m so excited! It certainly is fitting that “Lost” will be the first show I record.

We have a DVR through our cable company and we rarely watch live TV -- which drives my sisters bonkers when they want to compare notes on American Idol night.

Even if I am home when a show I want to watch comes on, I choose to record it and hit the play button 20 minutes or so into the show and, then, whoever is in charge of the remote gets to "zoom-zoom" through the commercials.

And -- BONUS -- we can stop the action if someone needs to go to the bathroom or fetch a beverage or pop some popcorn.

Plus, when my husband turns to me and asks, "What'd he say?" and my response is, "Huh? I dunno," then we can back 'er up and find out what we missed.
