The consumption of alcohol

The consumption of alcohol is acceptable in almost every country that I can think of (of course with its rules and regulations accordingly).

However, the amount and tangible factors that may apply themselves "some how" tend to be a cultural and growing experience of individuals in my opinion.

What I am saying is that, in our country. Not all, but it tends to be seen as the majority that people here drink to simple be "drunk". In what ever state of consciences that an individual may or not be in. People in the United States tend to relate drinking into gaining or achieving that state of "drunken euphoria”. Now that state usually depends upon the drinker and more importantly what his or her peers deem reasonable.

Another factor is that in at least our country (and others), we have accepted the state of being drunk. With a large media factor of advertisement, a list of impaired celebrities, and other factors that have one way or another shaped our minds into accepting the state of being drunk. We tend to be that forgiving group of people (because maybe we can relate?).

The other factor is of an individual’s learning or growing experience with the consumption of alcohol. Now, in my mind people start off drinking in an early stage in life (normally before the legal age at any period in time/ the legal age of drinking have changed a number of times over the years). Anyway, people who do drink have started out early in life and with that have learned their “lessons” with drinking. For many of those who have choose to drink have experienced those factors that drinking alcohol has on their body.

Because drinking alcohol has a biphasic effect on the body, people normally go through stages of their “drunkenness”. Normally, yes they tend to say they feel more relaxed and cheerful. However, as more drinks are consumed then it’s the blurred vision, blackouts and the ever so popular visit with the “porcelain god”. The hangover tends to be a big factor in letting that person know just how much they might have consumed the night before. However, it is mainly your body telling you that you are actually just dehydrated.

Because there are so many reasons why people do drink, it is the excessiveness of drinking that is really the problem. However, we as a nation just do not have it yet to really comprehend that social drinking factor as a whole. We feel that we need to experience those mishaps before we can somewhat appreciate the norm of just having a drink.

The two individuals I know

The two individuals I know personally abuse alcohol for a specific reason. The reason: to engage in activities that are normally "frowned upon" by the general public but are "excusable and acceptable" when an individual is intoxicated. From my observation, alcohol is one of many drugs (legal or illegal) that is used as a psychological crutch.

For example, if a woman chooses to have multiple sexual partners she is labeled as "slutty" or a number of derogatory things. If that same woman has multiple sexual partners but is always under severe influence of alcohol, it is seen as excusable because she is merely "drunk"

Why is excessive drinking of alcohol fun? Do you have any serious suggestions of how to make sure a moderate drinker doesn't turn into an alcoholic?
