By the way, summer softball season is over

Oh, by the way, the softball season is over. In my St. Paul league, I hit another home run. I think that is three on the year. They stopped making me pitch two games a week, which was much easier on the ol' right arm. I caught a couple games, as well as playing a little outfield and second base. In my Blaine league, I hit a few more flyouts but also pitched well. I have been pitching two games a week for that team. My hitting hasn't been on track all season, and I need to ready myself for the fall season. It starts in August, but they call it fall for some reason. I went to the Grand Slam batting cages this weekend, and my swing felt great. Some kids were oohing and aahing behind me, while I was hitting. One of them told their daycare provider, "He's good." But the daycare provider said that I was only hitting softballs, not baseballs. Jerk. I'll show him. This fall, I'm going to hit. And I bought a few extra batting tokens so that I have to go back to the cages to practice. More later. |

Back to page topI neglected to post that my season ended a few weeks ago. Our team won one game by default when the other team couldn’t field the required number of players. My teammates are starting a fall league tonight, but I’m not on the team this time – I’ve got to devote my attention to the Otte Fantasy Football League that begins at the end of this month.

Well, in my family league...
Back to page topWell, in my family league the Packers aren’t really sleeper picks. The big names – QB Brett Favre and WR Donald Driver – will go relatively early in the OFL draft, and I’d say Driver is the best pick on the team. But as far as a sleeper pick from the Green and Gold, I think there are two main choices: the defense and WR Greg Jennings.
Of course, any Packer you pick would be a better draft selection than a Viking of the same position (with the possible exception of running back).

Back to page topFightin' words, eh? How many Pro Bowlers did the Pack have last year? It's pretty much universal law that the so-called green and gold weren't the best at any particular position last year.
And you might not want to brag about Driver being the 11th-best fantasy pick at wide receiver. If he goes in your first round, it's a wasted pick. I'd take Randy Moss before Driver.
