Touched by 'Ladder 49'

In anticipation of the Jordan Fire Department’s 125th anniversary earlier this month, your local newspaper has been running a sporadic series of Q&A's with Jordan firefighters. You've read about Kevin Adamek, Jason Allen, Brian Anderson, Jonathan Brandtner, Randy Breegemann, Mike Briese, Nate Briese, Tim Draheim, Jason Guggisberg, Kenny Hayden, David Holzer, Scott Kochlin, Dale Oldenburg, Gregg Pekarna, Scott Petersen, and Jason Skorczewski. Many of them wrote about the John Travolta movie “Ladder 49” and how realistic it seemed. I’ll be honest – I was inspired. So many of the firefighters answered the same way that I figured I better just run up to the library and check out the movie. I watched it last week, and the firefighters were right. I’ve still never seen it,...
Back to page topI’ve still never seen it, but when I worked at a movie theater during college, the theater played it. One of my coworkers went to watch it almost every day, and always came back crying. (At least I think I’m remembering the right movie.)
