Republicans lead rally in support of Pawlenty spending accountability amendment

A press release from the Republican Party of Minnesota:

ST. PAUL -- At a Capitol rally today, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, state Sen. Amy Koch, state Rep. Paul Kohls, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton, Deputy Chairman Michael Brodkorb, and energized grassroots activists rallied in support of Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s spending accountability amendment, which would limit the state general fund budget to the level of revenue received during the previous budget period.

“I highly commend Gov. Pawlenty, I highly commend State Sen. Amy Koch, and I highly commend Rep. Paul Kohls for their bravery in bringing forth this common-sense spending accountability amendment. Remember, all this amendment does is put the question before the people of Minnesota: Do you think that we should limit state spending to the amount of money that comes in?" Bachmann told the crowd.

“There are going to be some difficult choices, but that’s what we were sent here for and they are no more difficult than the choices that Minnesota families and Minnesota businesses are making every day. And it’s about time the government got in line,” said Koch.

"It’s time to send the liberals here in St. Paul a message that ‘enough is enough.’ When you’re in a hole, stop digging. When you’re out of money, stop spending,” said Kohls, the house sponsor of the spending accountability amendment.

"This is a very reasonable proposal to set the stage for what I think is going to be the real reform issue of the next decade, of substantially lessening the size of government. We can’t afford it,” said Sutton.

“Thank you to all of the great grassroots activists who are here today. Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration to all Minnesotans who value lower taxes and limited government,” said Brodkorb.

A common sense approach to budgeting! Only spend what you have. Not what you hope to have. I will be curious to see if they let the people of Minnesota vote on this.
