Since the Minnesota Twins have been frequenting the disabled list, as well as being called up from and sent down to the minors, I had the urge to look at the roster today.

Infielders Howie Clark and Alexi Casilla and pitchers Bobby Korecky and Glen Perkins are some of the guys who've come up after opening day. Those weren't surprises to me.

But there's a new guy on the 40-man roster.

Check out Sergio Santos, a third baseman who also has played a lot of shortstop. He is a former minor league All-Star game home run champion. 

I'm not sure how we got this guy. In his photo, though, he's wearing a Toronto Blue Jays hat, and according to the Twins' Web site, he hasn't been assigned a jersey number. So he must be a new acquisition.

I did some checking. 

The Rochester Red Wings, the Twins' Triple-A affiliate based in upstate New York, list him as a 24-year-old, 6-foot-3, 225-pound, righthanded-hitting infielder wearing no. 19.

He's batting .171 this season -- .083 for the Red Wings -- with no home runs. Last year, in 126 games, he had a .314 batting average, 20 homers, and 66 runs batted in. See his minor league stats by clicking here.

In 2005, the Arizona Diamondbacks traded him to the Blue Jays as part of the deal that brought Troy Glaus to Toronto. 

We claimed him off waivers on May 13, and I'm guessing that with Casilla and Clark in the majors, Santos'll see some significant time playing in Triple-A. Let's hope he starts hitting.
