My day is not complete if I do not read the Star Tribune sports section. It's the one good thing I have to say about the Minneapolis paper -- they do a heckuva job reporting on the Minnesota Twins.

Pretty much daily, there are editing gaffes in the sports section, as there probably are from time to time in the Jordan Independent. But today's mistake was particularly dumb.

How could the Strib misspell the name of the most popular pitcher in Twins history on the front page of the paper on the day after opening day? It's Johan with one N. Even the sports writers wouldn't have messed up that one.

Very smooth.

On the subject of baseball...
I can visualize the entire scene; an outdoor baseball park on a crisp April evening like tonight, the second game in the Baltimore series. What a beautiful night for a ball game in a publicly subsidized building for a privately owned team. I imagine the smell of cigars (which I don't mind even though I don't smoke them - but wait; they'll be illegal there and that’s an entirely different conversation), popcorn and hotdogs. I can just hear Wally the Beer Man calling out, “Beer here!” What a beautiful almost romantic scene, the snow falling, temps in the high 20’s and players huddled around heaters in the dugouts. The biggest question is; can the guys actually play in Carhartts?
Awesome scene, touch ‘em all boys, touch ‘em all; I just did.

It will be a miracle if the new Twins stadium ever gets built on the site they have chosen before actually owning it. I just can't imagine many sellout opening nights on April 2nd if April 2nds keep up their reputation of being brisk, rainy 35 degree nights. The rest of the year would be a treat at an outdoor park but there are about eight weeks that would weed out the casual fans rather fast.
