I tried fasting for the first time in my life last week.
If I understand it correctly, the idea behind fasting is for a believer to suffer a little bit -- symbolic of the suffering Jesus Christ chose to undergo for us. (Please correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm missing the meaning.)
I went from 9 p.m. last Wednesday to 7 p.m. last Thursday without eating -- 22 hours. I admit I stopped two hours short of my goal. It was a busy day. I didn't pray as much as I should have, but I feel good about making a conscious effort to submit to suffering.
Fasting reminded me of my Savior, that I am more dependent on him than I am on food and drink or anything else on this earth.
I will try again. I will pray more. And I will get more out of the next time I fast.
