Criminal activity decreases in Jordan

Criminal activity this January through September is dropping in Jordan compared to totals through the same period of time last year, according to a report from Police Chief Bob Malz.

Here are a few statistics in the September 2007 report issued tonight:

- Assaults are up to 30 from 16.

- DWIs are down to 15 from 57.

- Obstruction of justice is down to 0 from 11.

- Background checks are down to 159 from 262.

- Domestics are up to 51 from 29.

- Ordinance violations are up to 247 from 177.

- Accidents at the intersection of highways 169 and 282 are up to 16 from 13.

- Citations for no insurance are down to 108 from 210.

- Seat-belt citations are down to 25 from 132.

- Stop-sign and semaphore infractions are down to 22 from 44.

- Speeding citations are down to 243 from 457.

- Other warnings are down to 637 from 949.

- This year, on Jordan's grid, 686 of 2,975 police calls came from the downtown area and the residential area east of Creek Lane.

- This year, the most common time and day for criminal activity is between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturdays. The next most common day and time is between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesdays. 

- Jordan police responded to 10,790 requests for service so far this year.
