County isn't closing Jordan's library

» Read similar stories filed under:

Scott County is pleased with the progress the city of Jordan is making toward a building a new library.

And from reading the story this week in the Belle Plaine Herald, it doesn't sound like the library is in danger of closing anymore.

If you remember, the Scott County Library Board a couple years ago alluded to plans to shut things down in Jordan if the city wouldn't improve the facility. City officials took seriously the letters they received from the library board, and a new city hall and library are on the docket for construction in the coming years.

Vanessa Birdsey, director of the Scott County Library System, told the Herald that she is hoping the new library will open in 2009 or 2010.

Belle Plaine might need to expand its library in the near future, as well.

That’s good news about the library, but the facility is still in need of a few upgrades and I hope it will get them soon.
