The Jordan City Council closed its work session at about 8:45 p.m. tonight to discuss the appraisals of property on which a proposed city hall and library project might soon be built.
Two locations have been suggested and appraised for what is likely to be a combined structure, including:
- a block of buildings along First Street, between Rice and Varner streets;
- and the site of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic School building, near the intersection of highways 21 and 282.
Minnesota's open meeting law allows for closed meetings pertaining to negotiations to purchase buildings, as long as:
- the council identifies the specific piece of property to be discussed before the closed meeting;
- the closed meeting is recorded and preserved (and the recording publicly released after a purchase is made or abandoned);
- a list of people present at the closed meeting is available to the public after the meeting;
- and the purchase of the property is approved in an open meeting.
The eventual purchase price is public data, according to a memo issued by City Attorney Annette Margarit to the council and the Jordan Independent.
