A street sign in the right-of-way near the Beckmans' home, located near the intersection of Hillside Drive and Woodland Circle, will be removed.
The family asked for the removal of an arrow sign it felt was an "eyesore," according to a memorandum to the city council from Jordan Police Chief Bob Malz, but the city's public safety commission voted 4-2 to deny the request.
"If Beckmans want it down, I would favor their request," Councilmember Sally Schultz said.
The family had planted flowers around the sign.
"Best looking sign in town," Councilmember Jeremy Goebel half-jokingly said. "Hate to lose it."
Mayor Ron Jabs argued against the move, saying the council should act for technical reasons, rather than based on who makes requests.
"I just can't think of an intelligent reason to leave it up," Councilmember David Hanson said.
The council voted to remove the sign.
