Slang Word

» Read similar stories filed under:

Are you over thirty? Are you nerdy, uncool, or simply suburban? You can "front a mad vocabulary" with my slang word of the week. Each week I will post a new word along with its definition and a sample sentence. You will be "talking street" in mere weeks. Give it a try... use your new word in a sentence and post it here.

HATER or HATA:
1. a palpably envious, jealous, or resentful person "Just because her vocabulary is limited doesn't mean she has to be such a HATER"
2. one who dislikes someone for illegitimate reasons, esp. a public figure or artist
syn KILLJOY, BUZZCRUNCH, SPOILSPORT, PLAYER HATER

Sample Sentence:
"Don't be a HATER just because I make my stuffing from scratch, you TOOL."

Hey, Vader ended up doing the right thing in "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi."

It's the Emperor - known as Darth Sidious -that was the HATER. Then again, can you really expect someone not to be a HATER when you are from the homeworld planet of Naboo and you were trained to be a HATER by the evil Darth Plageuis?

Sidious, born 82 years BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), never really had a chance.

Come on people, it's common knowledge.

Well, I did go to two Star Wars Conventions - both in Indianapolis before Episodes II and III came out - so the Force is strong with me.

However, I missed the 30-year convention in Los Angeles last spring. I have no excuse for missing it either, so I'm not going to say I tried to make it but couldn't.

As Master Yoda says:
"Do or do not. There is no try."

I actually have a tremendous respect for Star Wars nerds. I like the movies and all, but I’ve never used BBY in casual conversation. As a Lord of the Rings fanatic, though, I know all about geeky compulsions and casually slipping references into everyday talk.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty great. I’m no hata, but if they really wanted to show true neediness, the show would have Chuck using his own dialect of Klingon.

I think geek is a better word to describe us Star Wars' fans than nerd.

When I think of nerd, I think of the movies.
