My son got married in September and they asked me to do the photography for the wedding (along with being mother of the groom).
My nikon was in the shop for repair and cleaning but my friend Darryl from work lent me his identical camera (along with an extra battery and memory!) so the day was not lost.
Prior to the wedding we went to the park for 'engagement' photos. I did a series of photos and created the tripcate for them.
The 2 shots of the wedding party were fun to shot!
I have never had the opportunity to really shot a wedding and enjoyed the challenge....thanks Pete and Miranda.
The sepia "James and China" is my new daughter in law's son and his dog China before she passed away. This is a favorite picture in the family. James received a new dog at Christmas so I look forward to more photos opps with him!
Other images are of my husband Michael. Christmas in black and white with the stuffed 'frog' that sings jingle bells....on the deck of the LL Smith Jr on Lake Superior last summer.
The last 2 images are of Split Rock Lighthouse in November when they light the light for about 3 hours with a ceremony to honor the men of the Edmund Fitzgerald and other victims of Lake Superior. I haven't done a lot of night photography and wanted this shot - but at the time had left my tripod in the car. Not wanting to hike over to the car after the long climb down to the beach. I rested the camera on a rock and held it steady - but the light was moving so there is a blurr with that.
The last shot is a self portrait on the beach in Grand Portage last summer.

Back to page topIt looked like everyone was having fun in that wedding. At least in the two wedding parties I’ve been in, that isn’t always the case.
I also really like the picture with the dog. I know that before my cat died I would often just lay with my head right next to him. The picture reminds me of how great that felt.
And the picture with the lighthouse is beautiful. Night pictures are hard to do, especially without a tripod. Quick thinking on the rock!
I won’t comment on every picture, but they’re all pretty great.

A good first wedding shoot, huh? Congrats on the new son-in-law.
