I am new to this site (and city), but has there been any discussion about starting a Traveling Soccer Association for boys and girls ages 8-18? Just wondering...
Bringing soccer to Jordan is a great idea. Maybe we can get a coach, soccer player or school athletic department official to comment on that for you.
To me, it seems odd that a sporty town like Jordan doesn't have an organized outlet for players of the world's most popular sport. I'm not a fan of soccer. I played baseball and basketball and swam on the swim team (also missing in Jordan). But I would support some kind of option for kids who want to play soccer.
Where do kids go now? I've heard of some high schoolers going as far away as Minnetonka to find a good team on which to play soccer. There was a Jordan player I heard about who could not get onto the Shakopee High School soccer team. I would be frustrated if I was an age 8-18 soccer player here.
Are there local parks that serve as impromptu soccer fields? I met some kids who regularly play on the basketball court at Valley Green Mobile Home Park. Anywhere else?
But the main question you ask, mcdanno, is a good one. We know that there are soccer players in Jordan. Is there a movement afoot to get some organized soccer here?
