Back to page topBest shopping in Jordan is to buy a tank of gas to drive to a nearby town with retail. But as far as gas station extras go - best donuts are at Broadway Market and best coffee is at Holiday.

Back to page topWhat's the number to the Iris Valley store? I ordered something there for my son, back on Friday Ladies Night in November, have stopped in twice to see if it was done, and it still wasn't. Every time I drive by, it's closed. Thanks for any help contacting them, hopefully a worker will read this.

Not to minimize the flower,...
Back to page topNot to minimize the flower, gift, hardware and antique shops in town now, I'm glad there isn't much shopping. I'm relieved that those crazy days when customers from Sunder's, Bill's Grocery, Radamacher and Beckius hardware clogged our streets and sidewalks, it was chaos. Throw in the swarms from Geno’s or the Gold Spot and it had you running back out to the country just to get your sanity back.
Now the craziness seems to come mostly from folks driving through to get somewhere, I join them sometimes to shop in towns nearby and far away. Without getting into the politics of the whole question, I’m glad that Wal-Mart, K-Mart or Target aren’t located any closer than they are, the small town has charms that many who live closer envy at times too, charms that keep a lot of us here, versus buying a place in any community that have them.

Best shopping is Pekarna's meat Market. Their 'best item' a coldmeat proudct - made with the same meat 'receipe' used for ring bolonga, only stuffed into a casing about 4" diameter. A slice of this bolonga (thickness about the same as a slice of bread) between two slices of bread (homemade bread, if you have someone that can do that) makes a pretty good sandwich. As my Dad would say, "Something that will stick to your ribs."

Free Samples - They gave me a 'sample' when I stopped by on 12/7/06 - I don't know if this is 'standard' practice or not, but it happens. If ask about a certain item, I think that a 'sample' might be forthcoming. I would also imagine (and I do not speak for Pekarna) that any 'reasonable' request would be honored and, indeed, welcomed. When my Dad stopped by - years ago - he always got what he called a 'snit' that he ate on the spot. We kids ate about half his purchase on the way home - a small hole was opened in the weiner package and we each broke off a 'snit' of bolonga. We now live faraway, but with the advent of 'freezers', I can carry off quite a load. And we all 'pig out' on Memorial Day. Those were (are) the days!
