Really awesome Web sites!!!!!!!!

What are your favorite Web sites? I'm looking for innovative ideas for this Web site. (And I kind of like to be amazed and awed anyway.)

Rocketboom.com is my current favorite. It's a daily online newscast of the weird.

British anchorwoman Joanne Colan suggested these rockin' 360-degree photos of the Golden Gate Bridge. Wouldn't it be cool to have something like that of Lagoon Park? I'm going to put that on my to-do list.

Check out www.rocketboom.com, as well as www.goldengate.org. You won't be disappointed.

Mathias here, replying to his own Web post again. (Sigh. Oh well.) Remember I recommended Rocketboom.com? Well, I also recommend the anchor's replacement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-x_4W3i4gg

Usually when I use the Internet, it’s to waste a lot of time. That’s why www.homestarrunner.com is one of my favorite sites, but it certainly isn’t anything new – it’s been great for years. I also really like to play "Guess the Dictator or Sitcom Character" at http://www.smalltime.com/dictator.html. You’re supposed to think of either a dictator or a TV character and answer the questions you’re given. Eventually it will guess the person of which you're thinking. My friends and I would sit in the student center at my university for hours playing this one.

But as far as things that could be cool for this Web site, I like the new Google site where you can customize what news and information you see (you could specifically ask for education news or political news). I also like www.filmspotting.net, because they have podcasts to download.

I don't know if this is really awesome, but it's really funny. It's mocking a classic Star Wars scene.

Mathias, you must see this YouTube clip (if you haven't seen it before). Ball State University airs a nightly news show for its campus, which includes a sports segment. In this clip the regular sports guy is gone, so this poor fella takes his place for the night. Hilarity ensues. Keith Olbermann, Dan Patrick and others went on to mock this kid on SportsCenter for the next year, basically, by using his "catch phrase." Enjoy.

I gotta say, too, that one of my favorite sites these days is www.pandora.com. It’s an internet radio site where you can chose one or several songs or musicians that you enjoy, and Pandora will select like-sounding groups or songs to play on your station. It’ll even tell you why those songs are playing. You can set up a bunch of different stations. The station I’m listing to right now, based on The Rocket Summer, features songs with "electric rock instrumentation, a subtle use of vocal harmony, mild rhythmic syncopation, major key tonality and acoustic rhythm guitars."

The Rocket Summer sounds like a band (because it says "The" in front of the name), but it is actually just one guy who sings and plays a lot of instruments. I like the music quite a bit. It’s not really emo or anything, but he screams sometimes and he sings a lot of melodic stuff. I'd actually be very surprised if you did know who it was. Here’s the web site: http://www.therocketsummer.com. You can listen to some of the songs here: http://www.purevolume.com/therocketsummer.

I am not a fan of music from the 1980s, but a friend of mine sent me this link to an 80s music IQ test. You can take the quiz here http://www.yetanotherdot.com/asp/80s.html and compare your score with other JI readers. I scored a 66.5 out of some number.

Rhonda and I worked on it together (cheating, I know) we got a 75.5. We lost some points because we spelled Jessie wrong for Jessies girl. (we spelled it Jesse). And in one other we had dance instead of danced. We'll take them for the team.

It was funny listening as we trying to sing the songs.

Ok, I was surfing around a Snowmobile forums that I like to visit...since there is no SNOW to go out and play on. I came across this video of a downhill skier that you have to see to believe. May be the coolest thing I have ever seen.

He has the camera mounted to his helnet....at least I hope he has a helmet on.

This is a pretty cool Web site. I wish I could take credit for finding it, but I read about it on the Entertainment Weekly blog (http://popwatch.ew.com). The site is www.liveplasma.com. You can type in an artist, band, movie, director or actor, and the site will "map" it for you. It’s a pretty cool function that lists similar artists/movies/etc. to the one you typed in. It’s even got some lesser-known bands and movies mapped. It’s a fun diversion for at least a few minutes. I went from the Beatles to The New Kids on the Block by way of Outkast and "Music from the ‘James Bond’ film series."

I saw this site posted on another blog a few days ago, and it’s great: http://www.archive.org/index.php. You can watch streaming videos and download movies that are in the public domain – including some great older movies.

All you have to do is search for a classic movie title (usually up through the early sixties) and just watch what they have. There’s some great classics by Alfred Hitchcock and the like, and some awful movies like “Santa Clause Conquers the Martians.” It’s a fun mix.
