If you were running for council, what would you want to build?

During recent years, the city has been borrowing an increased amount of money to pay for items like a fire hall expansion and road projects. Do you support the plan to save $200,000 a year for building future city facilities, like a city hall or library, or would you rather continue to purchase bonds? Why or why not?

It's just prudent planning...

Back to page top

It's just prudent planning to save for public facilities, if past councils had any political stomach they would have planned better and this wouldn't be a problem now. Having cash on hand allows the city flexibility in the schedule of obtaining land, planning, and building, etc... If you just issue bonds, you are now tied to a tight schedule and legally must moved along a specific time line. Short sightedness by citizens of the past is costing current citizens a lot of money; not to mention by saving this brings up Jordan's available cash balance which brings up our bond rating. This better rating inturn saves the citizens thousands of dollars in interest costs.
