Those of you who wish to express Thanks to our troops serving our Country in Iraq and can find a forum at http://thankmntroops.org. You can leave comment, send a Letter or, if you wish, make a financial contribution thus thanking in a more 'material' fashion. There is little doubt that in most cases, the need is there. The site claims that 95% of the 'contributions' go directly to our troops. The contributions are for Minnesota Troops. I would expect, but do not know for sure, that these monies are income tax deductible.

Back to page topOne way to thank our troops is with a box of Girl Scout cookies.
Members of the Minnesota National Guard who are stationed overseas will be receiving cookies shipped by the Girl Scout Council of Cannon Valley, which oversees the Jordan area Girl Scouts.
To participate in what is called the Gift of Caring project, call Barbara Sheer, the product program manager, at 507-645-6603 or send an e-mail to barbscheer@gsccv.org by March 1. She will need a person and/or business name, phone number, and the number of packages you would like to send.
The cost of a box of cookies is $3.50, and there is no additional charge for mailing them to U.S. troops stationed overseas.

Back to page topTom Friedman (Author, The World is Flat) gave considerable, deserved, praise this morning 2/20, on the Imus program, to www.thankmntroops.org for its effort to provide 'material' Thanks to our troops who have served and are serving in Iraq. The program also included two comments I thought 'profound': (1) In Iraq, 'our troops, seem to be everyone's protector and everyone's target' and (2) (Where we try to help others in the Mid-East)... 'Democracy seems everyone's second choice'. Now, you may not agree, but the above is worth some thought.

http://thankmntroops.org.
This is a MN oriented program providing some 'material' thanks to those who have served their country. The effort is spearheaded and endorsed by Tom Friedman, a well known author and Mpls native.
Qualifications are spelled out and forms provided to apply for bonuses being provided to thank military for their sacrafice while serving our country. This easy process is spelled out and most MN military, I would think, will qualify for some sort of grant.
It may (not) surprise you to know, they will also accept contributions. They say, 95% of the contributions are paid out to military veterans. That is a degree of efficiency not seen in our federal government.
