Back to page topIt is hard to believe that 12 days have elapsed (back to 'review of president' cartoon), on a subject (problem) this important to our lives, or ((21 days back to 'strong leader' cartoon)) without reader comment. I did not see either of these 'editorial cartoons' earlier, or, you know me, I would have comment. Today's events (war in the Middle East) will probably have a greater affect on our lives than even WW II or the great depression. And, it ain't over yet. Speak now, your voices are starting to be heard. But, not yet, heeded. Maybe, if you speak a little louder.

Back to page topI don’t think that this war will have as great an impact on our lives as WWII. That war essentially established the U.S. as one of the world’s super powers. While this war will have a very large impact personally to many, many Americans, I don’t think it will have as great an impact on our nation as a political global entity.
I do agree that it is unusual that so few people have commented on any sort of political discussion. I know the reason that I haven’t commented is because I don’t feel like I have enough facts. I think people too often react blindly to any sort of political news item – either reacting along party lines or reacting on emotion and not presenting the facts to back up an argument. I also think there are very few unbiased national news sources left (with so many blatantly right-leaning and left-leaning media outlets), and it is hard for Americans to get the facts without any spin.

Back to page topThere are some who feel our status as the 'super power' ranking is eroding, but only time will tell. Few will say that it is strengthing. What with the (probably unstoppable) proliferation of nuclear powers, the plot is thickening. After WWII many bad guys felt inhibited because we could drive them out of power. Now we seem to have our hands full for the moment, that is no secret.
