I'm first, I'm first....
Back to page topI'm first, I'm first. Yeah.
Of course, Star Wars is the coolest movie series ever.
My favorite character is, without a doubt, Yoda.
And maybe I am going against the grain of "true" Star Wars enthusiasts, but I thoroughly enjoyed each of the new trilogy, yes even the first one.
Hey, has anyone read the books too? The major ones, I have read a lot of the Clone Wars ones. They can be interesting, sometimes. I wish they would have done more with the Clone Wars. The cartoons were OK, but I was hopign for even more out of that lengthy and important time.
And what is the deal with the TV series, when is that supposed to come out?

Back to page topI'm also on board with the first three of the triolgy. I don't know what the big deal was. I liked all three.
My favorite is still the last one - "Return of the Jedi."
And Yes, Yoda is bad.
"Remember, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware. Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny."
- Yoda, "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi."
However, my favorite character has always been Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker.
From "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back."
-Darth Vader: What is thy bidding, my master?
-Palpatine: There is a great disturbance in the Force.
-Darth Vader: I have felt it.
-Emperor Palpatine: We have a new enemy: the young Rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt that this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker.
-Darth Vader: How is that possible?
-Emperor Palpatine: Search your feelings, Lord Vader. You will know it to be true. He could destroy us.
-Darth Vader: He is just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.
-Emperor Palpatine: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
-Darth Vader: If he could be turned, he would become a powerful ally.
-Emperor Palpatine: Yes, he would be a great asset. Can it be done?
-Darth Vader: He will join us or die, master.
I am not a fan of the most...
Back to page topI am not a fan of the most recent three movies, but I will say this for them: they weren’t all bad.
I think the movies got a bum wrap because all the fans wanted to compare them to the original trilogy. But that was an awful idea, because so many people have this childhood love of those movies that they just can’t see past. If you look at episodes I-III as their own movies, separate from episodes IV-VI, they’re not bad sci fi movies. They aren’t great movies by any stretch, but they certainly aren’t awful.
Of course, the entire series peaked with "Empire," though, and it was nothing but downhill from there.
I am not a Star Wars die hard. Indy was my favorite Lucas creation. So clearly Han is the best character in any of the movies. And Chewy has got to be in the top 5, too. I also like Lando.
But here are some questions I have for the uber-fans:
Bib Fortuna, the Gamorrean...
Back to page topBib Fortuna, the Gamorrean guards, the Rancor monster and the Rancor keeper, Wicket, and the Max Rebo Band are some of the best minor characters in either of the trilogies, I think. If only for the vast depth of characters (along with amazing music and killer scripting) that went into "Return of the Jedi," it can't be categorized as the downhill movement from "Empire Strikes Back."
Seriously.
Add to the list Greedo, for sure. And I don't know if you count Jango Fett as minor enough, but he's pretty awesome as a child and later as a vengeful bounty hunter.
My five favorites overall: Han Solo; Boba Fett; Chewbacca; Darth Vader; and the old Yoda, because I'm not a fan of the flying, funny Yoda of the new trilogy.

- I don't really have a...
Back to page top- I don't really have a preference either way on the original or remastered ones. Maybe the remastered ones (not for some of the new footage they added, but just because it is a better picture). The original trilogy DVD that I own is, of course, the remastered ones. Not necessarily because thats what I was looking for, but because that was what was out there when I bought the DVD.
- First scene that comes to mind??? That is tough. One didn't just pop into my mind. The first one that really popped into my head was the start of the first one with Darth Vader walking onto the Tantive. One of my favorites is in Return when Luke goes to Jabba to rescue Han and Leia, and he busts out all his newfound Jedi skills. Mindtricks on Bib, and the wave of the hand.
- I always liked Jawas from the old trilogy. Greedo was cool, and the Gamorrean guards. The new trilogy: uh, the gungans, the cloners (Taun We) were interesting.
And I always searching for different Jedi, finding out their names and the story behind them (ones like Ki Adi Mundi, Kit Fisto, Shaak Ti, Saesee Tinn, Aayla Secura, and the such). You mentioned Wedge. He doesn't have a very big part in the movies, but in a few of the books I have read he takes on a bit more of a role.
(Brian Hall is the Sports Editor for the Jordan Independent and Shakopee Valley News, and can be reached at bhall@swpub.com.)
Oh yeah! Sandpeople and...
Back to page topOh yeah! Sandpeople and Jawas! Yep, they're pretty freakin' cool.
And I think the scenes that pop into my head first are:
- Darth Vader enters Princess Leia's ship with a battalion of stormtroopers. "The Imperial March" plays for the first time. ("Star Wars: A New Hope")
- During training on Dagobah, Luke Skywalker sees his own face in the severed head of a vision of Darth Vader. ("The Empire Strikes Back")
- Han Solo is released from the carbonite, asks "Who's there?" and Leia holds him and responds, "Someone who loves you." Then, Jabba the Hutt's deep laughter: "Ho, ho, ho." ("Return of the Jedi")
- Hovering over the Sarlaac Pit, Skywalker proclaims, in a piece of classic foreshadowing, "This is your last chance, Jabba. Free us or die."
("Return of the Jedi")

The first scene that comes...
Back to page topThe first scene that comes to mind when I think of the movies is from “A New Hope.” It’s the part where the rebels are attacking the Death Star and Han comes flying back in to save Luke at the last minute. That’s one of my favorite parts in the whole series.
And I, too, like Jawas. I used to yell out Ootini! when I went sledding in my younger years. It just seemed right at the time. But my favorite minor character is Greedo – poor Greedo! I decided to do a bit of poorly planned research on this bounty hunter, and I headed to the Web. Check out this page of Greedo assassination theories: http://www.arts.mcgill.ca/programs/polisci/faculty/rexb/greedo.html.
And that’s why I asked the question about the difference between the original and re-released. I prefer to think that Han shot first.
I think you are mistaken on...
Back to page topI think you are mistaken on Jango.
Jango was the adult in the new series. Jango was the one cloned. Boba was the kid in the new trilogy, who became the stud bounty hunter in the old trilogy...
And the Slave IV is the coolest ship in the Star Wars series. Although, the Millenium Falcon was always my favorite.
I still give my parents crap for never buying me a Falcon when I was younger.
(Brian Hall is the Sports Editor for the Jordan Independent and Shakopee Valley News, and can be reached at bhall@swpub.com.)
Oops, yeah, you're right...
Back to page topOops, yeah, you're right about Jango. Boba the child was pretty interesting, though, don't you think?
I have the Falcon and Slave toys if you want to play with them sometime ...
(Mathias Baden is the editor of the Jordan Independent. He can be reached at editor@jordannews.com.)
Uh, that's OK. I think I...
Back to page topUh, that's OK. I think I will pass.
I get all my fun now playing with my kid, and his toys. He loves the Thomas the train. So, I putter around with him doing that when I sometimes get free time...
Like that ever happens.
(Brian Hall is the Sports Editor for the Jordan Independent and Shakopee Valley News, and can be reached at bhall@swpub.com.)
Suit yourself. I'm not...
Back to page topSuit yourself. I'm not ashamed to share. Nor am I ashamed to admit to having played with them as recently as a decade ago. Nor am I ashamed to say that at one time, when I was living alone, my second bedroom was dedicated to "Star Wars" memorabilia -- no bed, just toys and an armchair.
(Mathias Baden is the editor of the Jordan Independent. He can be reached at editor@jordannews.com.)
Just watching "Star Wars,"...
Back to page topJust watching "Star Wars," the original. Call it "A New Hope" or "Episode IV" if you like, but I'm old school.
It's the remastered, extended version. I don't like the addition of Jabba the Hutt in the Millenium Falcon's hangar, do you?
(Mathias Baden is the editor of the Jordan Independent. He can be reached at editor@jordannews.com.)
I don't mind it...Anything...
Back to page topI don't mind it...Anything that adds to the story line really interests me.
I can't wait to see what Lucas comes up with, with this animated series that is coming out this year I think. Also, they are making a live-action series as well that is going to add to the story.
I read about it at Barnes and Noble one day. I was there to pick something up, and I saw a Star Wars magazine. It comes out like weekly or monthly I think, dedicated to all things Star Wars.
Gotta say too, I was watching films the other day and my son got super interested in them. Looks like I have spawned another Star Wars afficionado. Loves playing with his "Jedis" a Darth Vader and Obi-Wan, cartoonish type figures that someone gave me one time. So much so, that yesterday, we went and got him a lightsaber. He loves playign with them at his daycare, so I had to get him one for home...and of course had to get a second so he can have lightsaber fights.

I'm right there with you...
Back to page topI'm right there with you Brian.
My 2-year-old daughter as discovered the Galaxy Far Far Away (minus the light saber fights and questionable violence. Those parts get skipped for now).
She's become a youngling - a padawan learner.
I was watching "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi." She now repeats this line. Why, I don't know? Maybe she's being lured to the dark side.
I say: "Your overconfidence is your weakness." (said be Luke).
She comes back with: "Your faith in your friends is yours!"
That's the great line from none other than Darth Sidious (The Emperor).
However, I can see the young Jedi in my daughter since she constanstly wants to talk about Yoda, Obi-Wan and even Qui-Gon Jinn.

Back to page topNice. I find its important that we keep it going for the "younger" generations. Especially with the movies (likely?) over.
They need to understand the true genius and enjoyment of Star Wars. I feel the force is strong in my young one.

Back to page topI'm with you guys, too. Just bought a whole slew of Star Wars figurines for a 4-year-old I spoil way too much. And he got a glow-in-the-dark Star Wars T-shirt for Christmas -- his favorite present. Yay!
