Here are my questions......
Back to page topHere are my questions... What caused the weeds to take over the pond? Will the city be taking any preventative measures to stop the cause? If What are the long term effects of dredging? How will it effect the fishing? Then, if the city doesn't do any preventative measures how long before the weeds come back after dredging?
The Jewels of Jordan, the...
Back to page topThe Jewels of Jordan, the Mill Pond, Dam and Lagoon Park, deserve preservation, concern and support of Jordan and its 'Friends'. I am one of the latter. If more give the attention as does 'goldengopher' and The Independent, this 'useful' and beautiful spot will continue to serve the City very well. Not many cities have a park this nice that can be and is used by so many. Stay the course.
On the topic of the weeds...
Back to page topOn the topic of the weeds and especially algae, If you know where Hope Lutheran Church is, there used to be a grove of trees back there. In that grove and in other spots in that area of Jordan, there was a natural spring, this spring flowed into a small creek that flowed into the mill pond circulating the water. But due to the poor insight in developing that area to build a drainage ditch and the Bridle Creek developments, These springs have been destroyed or had their flow disrupted causing the water not to circulate, and thus the over growth of algae. As for the weeds, I believe it was caused by the extra sunny and hot summer last year.
Jordan has been long known by the DNR for its wonderful aquafers. But sadly, these are being destroyed by poor planning and massive development. If it is a matter of conservation, developers must be more cautious that they are being.
As for the fishing, I believe the pond is stocked by the DNR. I would call them or pay them a visit over at the state park and ask them personally. Though the fishing isn't the best. The stuff you can eat isn't that large so there's not real meat on them. The stuff you really don't eat, though you could with the right recipe is a bit overpopulated.
