I have a friend who just recently sent me Billy Joel’s greatest hits on CD. I have to say, I knew "Uptown Girl" and the theme from "Bosom Buddies," but there are a lot of other great songs on the CD. Do you have a favorite Joel album you’d recommend to someone who wants to get past just the hits?
The three albums that come to mind first would be "The Stranger", "Piano Man", and "Glass Houses". If you want a live recording check out "Kohuept" from a concert in Leningrad.
My friend also recommended "Glass Houses" and "The Stranger." I’m not much for live music, so I don’t think I’ll be checking that one out. But two people both recommending the same albums is enough for me. I will definitely consider those purchases the next time I head to the CD store, but I already have a long list of CD wants to consider as well (including The Yardbirds, The Who, Weezer, The Beach Boys, Elton John, David Bowie, Credence Clearwater Revival, Five Iron Frenzy... The list goes on and on).
