Should the Wolves make the trade?
December 14, 2006 - 10:15am — Brandon
With all the posts on this site about the Twins, I thought I'd write one about the Timberwolves. I’m sort of a fairweather professional basketball fan. During football season, I’m all about the NFL. But I’ll watch an NBA game or two when there’s nothing else on. By the time football is completely over, I’ll get a little more interested in the NBA. By the time the playoffs come, I’m ready to tune in for most of the games. But I’ve been a little more interested in the sport of late, because of all the trade speculation surrounding Allen Iverson. My main allegiances lie with the San Antonio Spurs because I like watching fundamental basketball played by smart, team-oriented players. But I guess I could call myself a fan of the Timberwolves as well. I like Kevin Garnett – he seems like a good guy – and I want him to win a championship. So when Iverson was linked to the Wolves, I was interested. The fact that about half the reports I read or hear say Minnesota would be a perfect fit for him made me even more interested. As a casual fan, I don’t know how to feel about the possibility of Iverson becoming a Timberwolf. As much as I’d like to see KG get his ring – and I’m guessing Iverson could at least help with that – I don’t know how I’d feel about a known ballhog and me-first player being on a team that wants my support. I know there are people out there with a little more stake in this team than I have. What do you think about a possible trade?

Marcus Camby of the Denver...
Back to page topMarcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets is the latest rumor. The Wolves are said to be interested. I have no factual basis for saying so, but reports on trades are always secretive and sketchy.
I vote yes for either of them. With the salary cap issues, I'm guessing that someone fairly expensive, like Troy Hudson or Marko Jaric, would be deployed from our ranks.

Get A.I. at almost any cost....
Back to page topGet A.I. at almost any cost. Absolutely not to Camby.
Get rid of Hudson, Mike James, Mark Blount, Mark Madsen at any cost. Blow it up. Those guys cost way too much for what they bring to the table.
It wouldn't quite be starting over if you kept KG and Ricky Davis and Randy Foye. Craig Smith needs to play more. Foye needs to play more and I would even say (GULP) Marko needs to play more. Too bad we can't restructure his deal, because he would make a pretty darn good sixth-man right now.
As far as I am concerned, if it isn't KG, Foye, Davis, Smith, or maybe Jaric, they can all be traded.
Go get AI.
I agree, even though...
Back to page topI agree, even though Blount's been better lately. Smith was a heckuva second-round pick, eh?

It's done. ESPN is reporting...
Back to page topIt's done.
ESPN is reporting that Iverson is going to the Nuggets for Joe Smith (I am sure all the Wolves fans who wanted Iverson love to hear that), Andre Miller and two first-round pick in 2007.
I would have liked to see AI go to the Wolves, but a great deal for the Nuggets. They hardly had to give up anything. That is very nice for them.
Not to mention, the fact that I come from Denver, I really like this deal. AI and Melo on the same team. OUCH. Good luck scoring if you are anyone else on the team.
Iverson vs. Carmelo, you...
Back to page topIverson vs. Carmelo, you mean? Don't you think they'll fistfight for scoring ops? Anyway, because of the last fistfight, you won't see the two of them together for a while. But a month from now, look out.
You know, I really hate trades like that, where a team sheds a humungous salary or a bad attitude (or both) for basically nothing. The Chicago White Sox, for example, have been the recipients of a number of trades that went their way for no good reason.
Teams like my almost-beloved Wolves never catch any breaks. Geez, if they wanted an Andre Miller (old) or a Joe Smith (they must not know how mediocre he is), we could have given him any of our old or mediocre players. Or all of them, which is probably why we blew this trade for A.I.
