Pawlenty's proposal

» Read similar stories filed under:

I cannot believe that a governor of a state facing a significant budget deficit would put forth a proposal to reduce the sales tax by one-eighth of one cent. His reasons for proposing this are not even close to any type of real solution. First, he is mad at the legislature for overriding his veto and wants to stubbornly stick to his no tax platform. I guess it might make him happy, but that doesn't register as justifciation for such a proposal. Secondly, he claims it will be a stimulus to the economy.

A big Thank You to community education

Both of my sons have participated in basketball over this winter season through Jordan Community Education. It was a great experience and I know that the kids involved learned a lot about basketball and sportsmanship while having fun playing the game. Thanks to everyone who made this happen!

What is with the public notices?

» Read similar stories filed under:

The Jordan Independent from two weeks ago had 8 pages out of 24 pages with public notices. The most recent edition this past week had 9 pages out of 28 pages. Why?

I would prefer to see more coverage of our local communities and schools.

Thought the article on the destruction of rainforests across our planet was informative.

PlayFoam - a parent's dream

Our kids got some of this PlayFoam for Christmas. They are remoldable sculpting beads that come in different colors. I was skeptical when the package read, "won't dry, crumble, or stick to skin or other surfaces", but the stuff is awesome!

This stuff is 100 times better than Play-Doh.

The kids love it and there is no mess - a true parent's dream!

Packers Super Bowl Bound

The Packers had the look of a championship team in their victory against the Seahawks! They played agressive, maintained their compusure, and stuck to their game plan. I'd say they looked unstoppable Saturday!

I'll be cheering for the Giants today because if the road to the Super Bowl goes through Lambeau, we're in. If the Cowboys win, that is o'kay too becauase as Brett Favre said, "There is always a first time for everything" and wouldn't it be sweet for him to get his first victory in Dallas stadium playing in the divisional championship game.

School District Budget

» Read similar stories filed under:

The Jordan School District is seeking residents to be involved on a cost savings committee this spring. Our school district, like many others across the state, has been struggling with a state school funding system that does not meet the needs of local school districts. Over the past years, the Jordan School District has implemented budget reductions, has used its fund reserves to cover shortfalls, and has gone to the voters with a referendum proposal to provide additional resources.

Billy Joel

I was and still am a huge Billy Joel fan. Remember well the concert with him and Elton John at Milwaukee County Stadium back sometime in the 90s.
