TVWho doesn't love a messy breakup?April 13, 2008 - 11:31am — Mathias Baden"Who doesn't love a messy breakup?" Those words were actually uttered on ESPN a minute ago. I can't believe it, and I am so offended. Imaginary tournament brackets are a regular feature of ESPN, one of my favorite sports TV channels. Normally, the brackets feature debates about the greatest sports moment or something to that effect. Sense of humorMarch 24, 2008 - 11:47am — BrandonMy wonderful future wife and I were talking about our senses of humor last night. There are definitely some common points that both of us find funny, but we also vary greatly in our respective tastes. For instance, we both agree that “Full House” is never funny, unless in an unintentional way because it is so corny. We also both laugh out loud at “The Cosby Show” and “Elf.” George’s desk bedFebruary 21, 2008 - 11:30am — BrandonYou remember that episode of “Seinfeld” during which George hires Jerry’s cabinet guy to turn his desk into a bed? I’m pretty tired today at work, and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t already realized that there is enough extra space under by desk to make a very comfortable bed. And the white noise created by my extremely loud and relatively outdated computer could lull me to sleep in seconds. Community ed keeps growingFebruary 19, 2008 - 11:52pm — Mathias BadenJordan Community Education and Recreation programs keep growing, said the head of the organization, Brenda Lieske, in her annual report to the city council. In 2007, 688 children participated in sports-related programs through community ed. That number is up from 614 in 2006. Last year, 1,280 students took part in the organization’s summer programs, up 70 since 2006. Community ed brought in $53,715 in 2007 and had a total of $49,875 in expenditures. The things we do for loveFebruary 6, 2008 - 9:37am — BrandonI watched an entire episode of “American Idol” last night. It was the first time I’ve ever watched the show from start to finish. It’s one of my fiancée’s favorite shows, and she was willing to watch “Lost” with me last week. So I’ll be tuning in next week, too, probably. It wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. What are some of the changes you’ve made in the name of love? Sound Off: Sellouts or Savvy?January 11, 2008 - 10:43am — BakerBlogIf I were a jingle writer for TV ads, I’d be a little worried about my job security. You may have noticed more and more bands and artists gracing TV ads with their songs over the last few years, and they’re not just shilling for iPods. There are lots of car ads and other products that seem to be stacking up rocks’ heavy hitters like records in a jukebox. The best of the best?December 21, 2007 - 1:07pm — BrandonWith all the year-end attention focused on the “best of” 2007 (including the Jordan Independent’s own chronology of last year), I got to thinking about how many things I like best from the last year that never get mentioned. So here are a few of the best things about 2007 in my opinion: Real life vs. HollywoodSeptember 20, 2007 - 11:05am — BrandonHave you ever watched a movie or TV show that supposedly shows your job and think to yourself, “Yeah, right!”? (While I’m not a teacher, as the son of two teachers I watched NBC’s “Teacher Turn off that TV!August 10, 2007 - 10:21am — BrandonThe other night, I realized that I had quite a lot of work to do in my apartment in order to prepare for some visitors I’m hosting this weekend. |
